Patriots | Brandin Cooks takes part in practice

Wed, 13 Dec 2017 15:26:18 -0800

New England Patriots WR Brandin Cooks (hand) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Cooks was targeted seven times in Week 14 but finished the game with only one catch for 38 yards. He has been quiet in each of the last two games but should have a favorable matchup this week. He can be at least a No. 2 fantasy option for owners this week.

Patriots | Tom Brady fully practices

Wed, 13 Dec 2017 15:21:14 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (Achilles') fully participated in practice Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Brady is coming off one of his most disappointing starts of the season in Week 14 but has had success against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the past. He should be considered a must-start option in all fantasy leagues.

Patriots | Chris Hogan listed as limited

Wed, 13 Dec 2017 15:16:21 -0800

New England Patriots WR Chris Hogan (shoulder) was limited during practice Wednesday, Dec. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Hogan returned to the lineup in Week 14 but was held to one catch for five yards during the game. He should have a better game against the Pittsburgh Steelers this week and can be a No. 3 receiver or flex option.

Patriots | Tom Brady excels against Steelers

Wed, 13 Dec 2017 09:31:57 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has won 10 of his 12 career starts against the Pittsburgh Steelers (including the postseason) and has a 115.1 passer rating with 29 touchdowns versus three interceptions in those contests.

Fantasy Tip: Brady's dominance against the Steelers is one of several reasons why Pittsburgh has attempted to play more man coverage this season. This matchup could yield different results than most of the previous battles, however, as his offensive line is allowing him to get hit more often and his Achilles' injury could explain why he has been more inaccurate over the last two weeks than he usually is. Based on his recent performances, it's hard to view him as the top fantasy quarterback play on the board this week.

Patriots | Malcolm Mitchell not expected to return

Tue, 12 Dec 2017 17:09:32 -0800

New England Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell (knee) is unlikely to come off the Reserve/Injured list in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: According to the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe, the Patriots have been working under that assumption for weeks. Mitchell showed some promise when he was on the field as a rookie, but his chronic knee problems may lead to a short NFL career. He's not a player owners need to hold onto in shallow keeper and dynasty formats.

Patriots | Kenny Britt signed by Patriots

Tue, 12 Dec 2017 13:27:22 -0800

Updating a previous report, free-agent WR Kenny Britt (Browns) is signing a two-year deal with the New England Patriots Tuesday, Dec. 12, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots' receiving corps is already pretty crowded with Brandin Cooks, Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola and Rob Gronkowski. Britt will have to battle Phillip Dorsett for playing time and is a non-factor going forward.

Mon, 11 Dec 2017 22:44:11 -0800

Patriots | Chris Hogan a ghost in return from injury

Mon, 11 Dec 2017 22:33:51 -0800

New England Patriots WR Chris Hogan registered only a single one-yard reception on five targets in the team's Week 14 defeat Monday, Dec. 11, opposite the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: Hogan was questionable entering the contest and apparently he's still not fully healthy, as this was a complete dud after the 29-year-old sat out the last handful of games. He'll have a chance to redeem himself in what should be a high-scoring matchup next week with the Steelers, but this is definitely concerning after he couldn't even be a factor with Rob Gronkowski out. Gronk is back next week, which may make it difficult for Hogan to get back in rhythm.

Patriots | Danny Amendola ties season high in targets

Mon, 11 Dec 2017 22:25:24 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola logged team highs in catches (six), targets (nine) and receiving yards (76) in the team's Week 14 loss Monday, Dec. 11, against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: This was Amendola's best game in a few weeks, and it was almost even better had he not been one yard short of a touchdown late in the ballgame. This was also encouraging for the former Ram, as he still garnered a lot of looks despite Chris Hogan returning from injury. However, don't put too much stock into this one, as owners need to remember Rob Gronkowski was sidelined with a one-game suspension and will be back next week.

Patriots | Brandin Cooks disappoints on MNF

Mon, 11 Dec 2017 22:20:20 -0800

New England Patriots WR Brandin Cooks finished with only one catch on seven targets for 38 yards in the team's Week 14 defeat Monday, Dec. 11, against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: Yikes. Owners of Cooks should be thankful he was even able to log the one catch, which came late in the fourth quarter, but other than that, he just couldn't get anything working opposite Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard. The result was Cooks' first game as a Patriot with less than multiple catches. He should bounce back from this right away, so no need to panic.

Patriots | James White finds end zone Monday night

Mon, 11 Dec 2017 22:13:41 -0800

New England Patriots RB James White did not have any rushing stats but he did manage to haul in three of four targets for 11 receiving yards and a touchdown in the team's Week 14 loss Monday, Dec. 11, against the Miami Dolphins.

Fantasy Tip: Interestingly, this was White's first game of the season in which he did not log a single rush attempt, though luckily he was still active in the passing game, nabbing at least three receptions for the tenth time in 13 games. Due to his inconsistency in the offense, though, he's more of a FLEX option for deeper formats.
