New England Patriots CB Malcolm Butler has reportedly told teammates and friends that he wants a new contract before the start of the 2016 season. He did not participate in the club's voluntary OTA Thursday, May 26, although it is unknown if the contract situation had anything to do with his absence. Butler is entering the final year of his current deal and is eligible to become a restricted free agent next offseason.

Fantasy Tip: This is a strong signal that the team is indeed bracing for Brady's four-game suspension. That's bad news for everyone all around from a fantasy perspective, at least as far as the first quarter of the season is concerned, but that doesn't mean Garoppolo can't come through. After all, he was able to shine when he got some playing time early on in the 2014 season. Brady is still worth a high pick despite the suspension, as he should return elite value as always.

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady and TE Martellus Bennett connected several times in the red zone, including some touchdowns, during organized team activities Thursday, May 26. Bennett was New England's primary tight end in practice with TE Rob Gronkowski (undisclosed) not practicing.
Fantasy Tip: As long as Gronk is healthy, Bennett will play second fiddle. Bennett could prove to be a viable red-zone threat, though, and is still worth drafting as a TE2 in his new confines.

Fantasy Tip: It's unlikely that Carter will make much of a fantasy impact this year even if he does continue to impress. Someone like Danny Amendola possibly going down could increase his opportunities, but Carter should be left on waivers for now.

New England Patriots CBs Malcolm Butler (knee), Logan Ryan (knee), Duron Harmon (knee) and Nate Ebner, LS Joe Cardona, OG Tre Jackson (knee), OL Josh Kline (biceps), OL Shaquille Mason (biceps), DE Frank Kearse (biceps) and OT Sebastian Vollmer (biceps) OT Nate Solder (biceps) and Alan Branch (undisclosed) did not participate in organized team activities Thursday, May 26. New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (foot), RB LeGarrette Blount (knee), RB Dion Lewis (knee), WR Danny Amendola (ankle, knee) and TE Rob Gronkowski (undisclosed) did not participate in organized team activities Thursday, May 26.
Fantasy Tip: The Patriots are infamous for their vague injury reports and resting of players. Obviously they're going to take caution with the players listed above, though. As long as none of these guys suffer any setbacks this offseason, they should be good to go for the start of the regular season. Edelman and Gronk should both be viewed as fantasy starters at their respective positions, with more value in PPR formats. Lewis is an RB2 candidate in PPR formats if he can stay healthy, while Blount has RB3 potential if he, too, can keep his health. Amendola is the biggest injury risk; he shouldn't be viewed as more than a low-end WR4 to high-end WR5.

New England Patriots RB Dion Lewis (knee) has given signs of optimism for being ready for the start of the season. Some close to Lewis feel that he's about a month away from being able to play in a game. The team plans to be conservative with him, and his repetitions in organized team activities will be limited at best.
Fantasy Tip: Lewis emerged as a PPR gem before going down with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. However, he only rushed 10 times in a game once last season. So don't overvalue him. He's a solid RB3 if he doesn't have any setbacks.

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady's legal team will officially file its appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit Monday, May 23, which is the deadline to do so. "The facts here are so drastic and so apparent that the court should rehear it," attorney Ted Olson said.
Fantasy Tip: Brady had his four-game suspension reinstated in the offseason, but he was able to wiggle free the first time. If you're drafting early, he's still worth taking as an upper-middle quarterback. You'll just have to burn a higher pick than normal on a backup in the low-end QB1 range.

Fantasy Tip: The Patriots already have a pretty crowded backfield, so they may not be looking to add even more depth right now, even if it is Foster. If New England's backfield stays as is, Dion Lewis is an RB2 candidate in PPR leagues and LeGarrette Blount is an RB3 option in standard formats.

Fantasy Tip: Foster is still recovering from his Achilles' tendon injury, so he is not ready to sign with a team at this point. Foster likely would be part of a committee if he signed with the Patriots, which would hurt is value. Foster probably would be a middle- to late-round option in fantasy leagues but would not be a weekly starting option. Foster could be a No. 3 running back or flex option if he joins a favorable situation.
