Patriots | Malcolm Mitchell active

Sun, 22 Jan 2017 14:16:42 -0800

New England Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell (knee) is active for the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 22, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Mitchell is a risky DFS play this week, but with such a small player pool, consider him a flex.

Sun, 22 Jan 2017 14:12:32 -0800

Patriots | Pats open to moving Jimmy Garoppolo

Sun, 22 Jan 2017 10:10:31 -0800

The New England Patriots will be willing to listen to trade offers for QB Jimmy Garoppolo this offseason and will be looking for at least a first-round pick in return. The Patriots will also have to make sure they are comfortable with QB Jacoby Brissett as their No. 2 quarterback before moving Garoppolo.

Fantasy Tip: Garoppolo likely will be a trade target for multiple teams this offseason, so owners will need to monitor the situation. He threw for 502 yards and four touchdowns in his limited playing time this season and likely will be a starting quarterback in 2017. He probably should be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback next season no matter where he plays.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett may need surgery

Sun, 22 Jan 2017 09:21:12 -0800

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (ankle) has been playing with a cracked bone in his ankle as well as bone chips in the ankle and likely will need to undergo surgery this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett has not posted great receiving yards over the last several weeks and probably has been affected by his injured ankle. He did find the end zone in three of his last four regular season game and is a weapon in the red zone. Fantasy owners can consider Bennett a No. 1 tight end this week.

Patriots | Martellus Bennett likely to play

Sat, 21 Jan 2017 23:53:09 -0800

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (knee) is expected to play in the AFC Championship game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett's production was disappointing for much of 2016, but he did score in three of the last four regular season games. The Steelers struggled to contain Kansas City's Travis Kelce (five catches, 77 yards) last week as well, and Bennett has the skills to take advantage.

Patriots | Chris Hogan ready to go

Sat, 21 Jan 2017 23:49:32 -0800

New England Patriots WR Chris Hogan (thigh) is likely to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship game Sunday, Jan. 22, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Fantasy Tip: Hogan caught all four of his targeted passes for 95 yards last week before exiting with a thigh injury. He'll likely start opposite Julian Edelman and should offer enough upside to warrant a spot as a No. 3 fantasy receiver.

Patriots | Malcolm Mitchell expected to play

Sat, 21 Jan 2017 23:35:21 -0800

New England Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell (knee) is expected to play in the AFC Championship game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Fantasy Tip: Mitchell hasn't played since before Christmas, so he may need to knock off some rust. He's also short on big-game experience and, outside of a three-week stretch in late November/early December he didn't do a whole lot offensively this season. Mitchell looks to have a low floor and a fairly low ceiling as well.

Patriots | Tom Brady has had Pittsburgh's number

Sat, 21 Jan 2017 15:39:19 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has averaged 314.8 passing yards and thrown for 19 touchdowns versus no interceptions in six games against the Pittsburgh Steelers since Mike Tomlin became their head coach in 2007. Brady's 127.5 passer rating versus Tomlin's teams is the highest against any coach (minimum three games).

Fantasy Tip: It's a bit of a misleading stat considering the Steelers' current defense is run by Keith Butler and was coordinated previously by Dick LeBeau, who now calls the shots for the Tennessee Titans. Nevertheless, Brady has tortured Pittsburgh regardless. The Steelers' blitz-heavy ways could be their undoing in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday if they don't find a way to shut down the middle of the field against the Patriots.

Sat, 21 Jan 2017 07:16:11 -0800

Patriots | Martellus Bennett questionable

Fri, 20 Jan 2017 14:49:11 -0800

New England Patriots TE Martellus Bennett (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 20, and is listed as questionable for the AFC Championship game.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett has found the end zone in three of the last four games but has not caught more than four passes in a game in the last eight games. He can still be a No. 1 tight end for fantasy owners because of his touchdown potential.

Patriots | Malcolm Mitchell listed as questionable

Fri, 20 Jan 2017 14:46:52 -0800

New England Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell (knee) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 20, and is listed as questionable for the AFC Championship game.

Fantasy Tip: Mitchell has missed time because of his knee injury but appears to have a chance to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He probably would see limited targets if he plays and could be avoided in some fantasy leagues.

Patriots | Chris Hogan's status in question

Fri, 20 Jan 2017 14:44:09 -0800

New England Patriots WR Chris Hogan (thigh) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 20, and is listed as questionable for the AFC Championship game.

Fantasy Tip: Owners can keep an eye on the situation to see if Hogan is in any danger of missing the game. He probably will be the team's No. 2 receiver if he plays and can be a decent No. 3 receiver option for owners.

Patriots | Danny Amendola questionable

Fri, 20 Jan 2017 14:40:37 -0800

New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola (ankle) was limited during practice Friday, Jan. 20, and is listed as questionable for the AFC Championship game.

Fantasy Tip: Amendola appears to have a solid chance to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but owners can check on his status closer to game time. He should see a decent amount of targets during the game and can be a No. 3 receiver or a flex option for owners.

Patriots | Malcolm Mitchell trending towards playing

Fri, 20 Jan 2017 13:02:53 -0800

New England Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell (knee) is "trending in the right direction" regarding his status for the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 22, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Fantasy Tip: Mitchell hasn't played since Week 16, so even if he does manage to return Sunday evening, he'd be a risky fantasy option. The 23-year-old rookie has been able to practice on a limited basis this week, but it's unknown how close he is to full health. Owners can do better.
