Patriots | Commissioner to hear from Tom Brady

Wed, 20 May 2015 11:41:01 -0700

Updating previous reports, New England Patriots QB Tom Brady's appeal will not be affected by the team's decision to accept their sanctions. Commissioner Roger Goodell said he wants to hear from Brady directly in regards to the deflation of footballs in the AFC Championship.

Fantasy Tip: Brady could still see a reduction in his current four-game suspension. If the suspension is cut in half, he's still in the QB1 conversation. If the suspension is upheld, his total numbers may not reach QB1 status.

Patriots | Jimmy Garoppolo ready to succeed?

Sun, 17 May 2015 17:41:14 -0700

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo's quick decision making and accuracy fit well with New England's playbook that includes quick-rhythm passes as part of the foundation, and Bucky Brooks of NFL.com believes the Patriots will continue to use the diverse aerial attack that is used when QB Tom Brady is under center when Garoppolo starts.

Fantasy Tip: Garoppolo will have some big shoes to fill, but the Patriots will no doubt put him in the best position to succeed. He could make a nice sleeper at FantasyScore while Brady is serving his suspension, and if you draft Brady in a seasonal league, Garoppolo is worth targeting as a handcuff.

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to start while QB Tom Brady serves his suspension for 'DeflateGate'. Brady was suspended four games by the National Football League Monday, May 11, but intends to appeal the penalty.

Fantasy Tip: For now, Garoppolo would start four games, and he would be worth a look in deeper fantasy leagues, especially if you primary option has an early bye or difficult schedule. Patriots | Tom Brady suspended

Mon, 11 May 2015 14:43:37 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has been suspended four games for his involvement in the deflated-football incident in the AFC Championship. In addition, the Patriots will lose their 2016 first-round pick, a 2017 fourth-round pick and will be fined $1 million, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Brady could still very well appeal, but his fantasy value will take a good hit if this decision stands. If Brady appeals and the suspension is reduced, say to two games, he'll still be in the QB1 conversation. If he does miss four games, he'll only play in Weeks 6 through 17, as the Patriots have a Week 5 bye this year. Regardless of the outcome of his suspension if he appeals, you'll need to draft a backup quarterback with plenty of upside and a favorable schedule early in the year if you roster Brady in 2016.
