Patriots | O-line hurting Patriots

Tue, 30 Sep 2014 09:17:43 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady and the offense struggled mightily in a 41-14 thrashing by the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4 Monday, Sept. 29, and head coach Bill Belichick hasn't been able to settle on a starting group on the offensive line. C Bryan Stork, a rookie, debuted as the starting center, and OG Cameron Fleming debuted as the starting guard. The team benched both starting tackles at various points during the game. Brady hasn't had much time to throw all year, and he was off target Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Until New England's offensive line can gain some consistency, Brady may continue to struggle to put up numbers in this weak offense. Rob Gronkowski also continues to look much less than 100 percent healthy. Until we see improvements, it's probably safer to stay away from Brady at FantasyScore.

Patriots | Jimmy Garoppolo throws first TD

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 21:06:25 -0700

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo threw his first-career touchdown pass Monday, Sept. 29, after he replaced QB Tom Brady in the fourth quarter of the team's Week 5 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Garoppolo finished his debut 6-for-7 for 70 yards and the score.

Patriots | Brandon LaFell shines in loss

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 20:50:41 -0700

New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFell had a team-high six receptions for a game-high 119 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, Sept. 29. It was LaFell's first TD with the Patriots.

Fantasy Tip: LaFell was one of the few bright spots in an ugly game for the Patriots. There aren't many NFL caliber wideouts on the New England roster right now, and certainly not many fantasy relevant options, but LaFell certainly looks like a decent WR3/4 or flex option going forward. He appears to have Tom Brady's confidence.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski scores late TD

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 20:49:31 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski hauled in two receptions for 31 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 game against the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, Sept. 29. Gronkowski played in 31 of 49 snaps in the loss.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski was used plenty as a blocker, but his health issues appear to be in the past. He has seen a gradual increase in snaps per game. He remains a Top 10 fantasy option in all formats.

Patriots | Tom Brady lifted early

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 19:27:12 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady completed 14 of his 23 pass attempts for 159 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the Week 4 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, Sept. 29. One of the interceptions was returned for a touchdown.

Fantasy Tip: It was a very un-Brady-like performance. His departure from the game was due to the lopsided nature of the score, as it was 41-7 when he was lifted for rookie Jimmy Garoppolo.

Patriots | Rob Gronkowski busy in first half

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 19:02:05 -0700

New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski was on the field for 18 of his team's 23 offensive snaps in the first half of the Week 4 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Gronkowski had just one catch for 18 yards, however, and he has been targeted twice.

Fantasy Tip: Gronkowski has been blocking plenty, but doing very little in terms of fantasy production.

Patriots | Shane Vereen leading RBs in snaps

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 18:54:17 -0700

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen was on the field for 17 offensive snaps in the first half of the Week 4 game against the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, Sept. 29, with RB Stevan Ridley in for six snaps, and RB James White in for two. The team ran two plays with two running backs on the field simultaneously.

Fantasy Tip: Vereen's fantasy owners have to like the snap distribution, although Ridley actually leads the team in rushing with 15 yards on three totes, while Vereen has nine yards on four runs. Vereen also has 12 yards on three receptions while the other two have no catches. Vereen is the best fantasy option of the trio, but neither has done much of anything Monday.

Patriots | Stevan Ridley invisible in first quarter

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 18:06:23 -0700

New England Patriots RB Stevan Ridley was on the field for just one of his team's seven offensive snaps in the first quarter Monday, Sept. 29, in the Week 4 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Fantasy Tip: Shane Vereen was on the field for six of the seven snaps, and clearly is way ahead of Ridley on the depth chart. In fact, it's not even close. Fantasy owners need not pay Ridley any mind until he sees the field a little more frequently.

Patriots | James White set to make debut

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 16:47:03 -0700

New England Patriots RB James White is expected to make his NFL debut in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs. He is not listed on the team's inactive list.

Fantasy Tip: White was a preseason sensation, but he has yet to crack the active list until Monday. He could be involved in the passing game, running short routes out of the backfield, forcing the Kansas City linebackers into pass coverage. White is worth keeping an eye on. The Patriots have Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen healthy, so it isn't likely White sees many carries. However, in the past we have seen a third RB emerge in New England and actually be fairly useful, and White could be that guy over time.

Patriots | Tim Wright could see more time

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 16:46:17 -0700

New England Patriots TE Tim Wright could see extended playing time in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, Sept. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Wright could see another target or two, as the Patriots try to force the Kansas City linebackers into more coverage and less rush defense, but it is not enough to make Wright fantasy relevant at this time.

Patriots | Aaron Dobson well down depth chart

Mon, 29 Sep 2014 16:39:45 -0700

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots WR Aaron Dobson was on the inactive list for the Week 4 game against the Kansas City Chiefs Monday, Sept. 29, but he is a healthy scratch.

Fantasy Tip: Dobson was slowed by injury in the preseason, and he is well down the depth chart if he isn't active on game day. For now, do not bother with him for fantasy purposes.
