If Favre decides not to return, the Vikings would like the opportunity to compete with other teams to acquire potential starting quarterbacks once the trading deadline opens March 5. Vikings | Rice plans to call Favre Judd Zulgad, of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings WR Sidney Rice said during a television interview that he plans to call QB Brett Favre in the upcoming weeks to try to persuade Favre into coming back next season. Vikings | McKinnie explains dismissal from Pro Bowl Kevin Seifert, of ESPN.com, reports Minnesota Vikings OT Bryant McKinnie explained his dismissal from the 2010 Pro Bowl. McKinnie said he had called his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, to tell him he wanted to withdraw. McKinnie said, "I had taken a cortisone shot in my foot the week before the game. When you take that shot, it numbs whatever. You don't feel like you're hurt anymore." McKinnie added that he tried to have the trainer look at his injury, but scheduling issues popped up to where they never had a chance to meet. McKinnie said he was sick and in the hotel on other days where he missed practice or meetings. McKinnie wishes he had better communication with trainers to follow up with his injury, but he feels that everything has been made to be "more than it really was." "You know what? He's becoming a liability for that team. look at that conference championship game. It's all mechanics. It's the same thing I had to learn. You do something one way for so long, you get away with it and you don't think it's a problem. Once you get in the National Football League -- safeties, linebackers, defensive linemen -- they're all taught to strip. If you have any kind of looseness in that football, it's going to come out … Whether it's down here close to your body, up at your chest close to your body, you have to keep it on your body so it can't get knocked away. And then when you go in to contact, cover it with your other hand. It was simple. Most things that cause success are simple," Barber said.
