Vikings | Adrian Peterson's option declined

Tue, 28 Feb 2017 09:12:02 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson will not have his 2017 option exercised, the team announced Tuesday, Feb. 28, and he'll become an unrestricted free agent March 9.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson really struggled before his knee injury, but the team didn't really put him in a position to succeed. They ran from the shotgun formation, which is not to Peterson's skill set, and the offensive line was in shambles. It'll be interesting to see where he lands and what he has left as he turns 32 next month. He's probably not a great pick as an RB1 at this stage, but we've learned time and time again not to discount the future Hall of Famer.

Vikings | Kyle Rudolph the go-to guy in red zone

Sun, 26 Feb 2017 19:57:11 -0800

Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph was targeted 24 times in the red zone in 2016, ranking first among tight ends and second overall.

Fantasy Tip: Rudolph emerged as one of Sam Bradford's favorite targets, and he finished among the league leaders at his position in most categories. With Bradford back under center in 2017, Rudolph should have no problem finishing as a midrange TE1.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson confused by doubters

Fri, 24 Feb 2017 21:07:59 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he perplexed by those who question whether or not he can bounce back in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson delivered miraculous comebacks in 2011 and 2015, but age is not on his side. He could still be a RB2 in the right situation, but his chances of being an elite back again are slim.

Vikings | Minnesota believes in Laquon Treadwell

Fri, 24 Feb 2017 19:40:18 -0800

Minnesota Vikings WR Laquon Treadwell has the skill set and determination to succeed, according to general manager Rick Spielman, and Spielman said he believes in his heart Treadwell will be a good player for the franchise.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries derailed Treadwell's rookie season, but he remains an intriguing prospect in keeper leagues. In redraft leagues in 2017, he is merely a late-round lottery ticket.

Vikings | No talks between Vikings, Adrian Peterson

Fri, 24 Feb 2017 14:10:26 -0800

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said he has not talked with RB Adrian Peterson at this point but will not make a decision on Peterson's contract until he talks with him and his agent. Spielman said the team will make a decision before the start of free agency.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson likely will not return to the Vikings under his current contract but could stay with the team if he restructures his contract. Peterson probably will be with a new team in 2017 but may not be able to handle a workload like he did in the past. Peterson could be a No. 2 running back in fantasy leagues depending on his role.

Vikings | Questions marks around Minnesota QB spot

Thu, 23 Feb 2017 18:28:42 -0800

Minnesota Vikings QB Sam Bradford's future with the team beyond 2017 isn't set in stone, according to general manager Rick Spielman, and Spielman said the future of the quarterback position remains "in flux."

Fantasy Tip: Bradford's future with Minnesota likely depends on the health of Teddy Bridgewater. In the meantime, Bradford is locked in as the starter for 2017, but he is merely a midrange QB2 for fantasy purposes.

Vikings | Minnesota undecided on Adrian Peterson

Thu, 23 Feb 2017 12:38:37 -0800

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson's future with the Vikings is still in limbo. General manager Rick Spielman said Minnesota hasn't yet made a decision on their running back, but it's unlikely that Peterson remains a Viking if he's not willing to take a big pay cut. He is due $18 million next season.

Fantasy Tip: Drafting Peterson this offseason is much too risky of a proposition after he suffered another serious knee injury last year. He has missed 28 games the last three seasons and may be close to the end of his career. He obviously has RB1 potential when he's healthy, but it's just too risky to take him in RB1 territory, wherever he plays.

Vikings | No timetable for Teddy Bridgewater

Thu, 23 Feb 2017 11:23:12 -0800

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) still has no timetable for his return, according to general manager Rick Spielman. Spielman added that it would be "unfair" to give Bridgewater an ultimatum after suffering multiple serious injuries. Bridgewater is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a dislocated knee.

Fantasy Tip: At this point it looks like Bridgewater will keep playing second fiddle to Sam Bradford, especially after Bradford's unsung success last year. Stay away from Bridgewater for the time being, and only draft Bradford as a QB2.

Vikings | Sam Bradford took care of the ball in 2016

Wed, 22 Feb 2017 21:34:42 -0800

Minnesota Vikings QB Sam Bradford totaled six touchdown passes over the final two weeks of the season - a total that surpassed the number of interceptions he threw all season (five).

Fantasy Tip: Bradford played at least 14 games for the fourth time in his career last season, but 2016 marked the first time in those years he threw fewer than 13 interceptions. He has arguably the best supporting cast he's ever had at the moment with Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen and Kyle Rudolph all coming off career years. The Vikings are going to need to address their offensive line if they hope to keep Bradford mostly healthy again next year, but he has emerged as a matchup-based QB2 in fantasy at the very least.

Vikings | Kyle Rudolph was NFL's most-targeted TE

Tue, 21 Feb 2017 20:46:47 -0800

Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph led all tight ends this past season with 132 targets, converting that into career highs in receptions (83) and yards (840). He also registered seven receiving touchdowns.

Fantasy Tip: It's understandable if most owners were not aware of this. Luckily for Rudolph, he could be on track for a similarly heavy workload next year, as his role in the offense undoubtedly increased once star running back Adrian Peterson went down with injury. Peterson might not return to Minnesota, and if he's out of town, Rudolph should ideally pick up where he left off as one of Sam Bradford's most dependable targets in the passing game.
