Vikings | Jarius Wright's roster spot in danger?

Thu, 20 Jul 2017 23:34:18 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Jarius Wright is no lock to make the team, according to ESPN's Ben Goessling, following the offseason signing of WR Michael Floyd and the selection of rookie WRs Rodney Adams and Stacy Coley in the draft. Wright signed a four-year extension before the 2015 campaign and carries a cap number of $3.138 million for the upcoming season.

Vikings | Dalvin Cook to get used on kickoffs?

Tue, 18 Jul 2017 18:46:25 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook may be a candidate to return kicks if special teams coach Mike Priefer has his way, although Priefer acknowledges the decision ultimately lies with head coach Mike Zimmer.

Fantasy Tip: It is very uncommon for a lead back - much less a potential featured one - to play on special teams, so if reports begin to surface he is returning kicks during camp, it would be a clear sign Minnesota intends to use a split backfield. That is unlikely to happen, however, so Cook should be targeted as a high-upside RB2.

Vikings | Dalvin Cook to see 300 touches in 2017?

Sun, 16 Jul 2017 11:31:40 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook broke loose for a run of 50 or more yards 10 times during his Florida State career, and while the Minneapolis Star Tribune's Matt Vensel believes the Vikings might not ask him to take on 300 carries as a rookie, Vensel will also not rule it out.

Fantasy Tip: Much will depend on how quickly Cook is trusted in pass protection, because projected backup Latavius Murray has a reputation as a good blocker. The No. 41 overall pick in April has allowed his coaches and teammates alike thus far and seems very much on track to be the Week 1 starter. Cook should be considered a strong RB2 with low-end RB1 upside.

Vikings | Michael Floyd receives suspension

Fri, 14 Jul 2017 13:18:40 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Michael Floyd has been suspended for the first four games of the 2017 season, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Floyd has had some off the field problems over the last year and will miss the first month of the season because of the suspension. Floyd had some value when he signed with the Vikings but probably can be avoided in fantasy leagues now. Adam Thielen could see more targets this season and can be a No. 3 receiver in leagues.

Vikings | Michael Floyd will be cut if lying

Thu, 13 Jul 2017 14:36:39 -0700

Minnesota Vikings WR Michael Floyd will be released if the Vikings determine that he lied about not drinking alcohol before failing three Breathalyzer tests in June. In a sworn affidavit, Floyd said he had consumed a hefty amount of kombucha tea -- a health drink that contains alcohol.

Vikings | No brace for Teddy Bridgewater

Thu, 13 Jul 2017 11:17:36 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Teddy Bridgewater (knee) has been working out without a brace on his surgically repaired knee. The extent of Bridgewater's workout regimen and timetable has not been fully disclosed, however, and he could begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Fantasy Tip: Bridgewater will have to watch Sam Bradford quarterback the Vikings until he is fully recovered. That may be later this season or that may be next season. Either way, Bridgewater's value in the fantasy realm is nil right now.

Vikings | Sam Bradford efficient on deep throws

Wed, 12 Jul 2017 19:31:52 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Sam Bradford had the highest adjusted completion percentage on deep passes of 20 yards or more in 2016, converting on 57.4 percent of such throws. Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan (57.1 percent) and New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees (56.1 percent) finished second and third, respectively.

Fantasy Tip: A common misconception about Bradford is that his completion percentage is only so high because he throws so many short passes, but this stat should disprove that. Either way, the fact remains that the former No. 1 overall draft pick had a really good showing in his first year with the Vikings, and shouldn't be overlooked by owners who elect to choose their QB1 late in deeper drafts.

Vikings | Kyle Rudolph top targeted TE in scoring range

Tue, 11 Jul 2017 17:34:49 -0700

Minnesota Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph finished with 24 targets inside the red zone last year, including 10 inside the 10. Both marks were the best among tight ends.

Fantasy Tip: To put Rudolph's numbers inside the 20 and 10 into perspective, he saw more targets than Odell Beckham Jr. from both distances (24-21 and 10-9), caught more such passes than OBJ (14-9 and 6-4) and matched him at both levels in touchdowns. Perhaps the Vikings' talent upgrades along the offensive line will reduce their need to throw so quickly and lessen their dependence on Rudolph outside the 20, but he is a solid midrange TE1 and should remain the team's top option in the red zone.

Vikings | Latavius Murray falling back

Tue, 11 Jul 2017 08:51:59 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Latavius Murray (ankle) is losing his grip on the starting job due to the addition of RB Dalvin Cook. Murray has missed the entire offseason recovering from ankle surgery, and Cook's blend of speed and versatility coincides with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur's stylistic history at the position.

Fantasy Tip: Murray was an RB2 when he signed in the offseason, but Cook's arrival has to demote Murray into the RB3 range in fantasy. Cook has upside in the system as an RB3, but Murray has the advantage in experience. This will be a battle to keep a close eye on moving forward.

Vikings | Dalvin Cook built to succeed with OC

Tue, 11 Jul 2017 08:50:57 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook, a versatile, quick back is built to succeed under offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. Shurmur has leaned toward using one back more than a committee style in his career. With RB Latavius Murray (ankle) still recovering from offseason ankle surgery, Cook is in a prime position to usurp him as the lead back.

Fantasy Tip: This will be one of the most interesting competitions to watch moving forward. Murray was inked to a three-year, $15 million deal in the offseason to be the guy. However, Cook slid in the draft, and the team moved up to take him in the second round. Cook has the tools and the opportunity to be the lead back, but Murray still has some say in the situation. Murray has likely fallen into the RB3 mix with Cook, but if push comes to shove, Cook has to be the better option for fantasy purposes due to upside.

Vikings | Sam Bradford better under pressure

Sat, 08 Jul 2017 19:22:09 -0700

Minnesota Vikings QB Sam Bradford was the most accurate passer under pressure and most accurate on throws over 20 yards last season, according to Pro Football Focus.

Fantasy Tip: While those statistics are encouraging, it doesn't change the fact that he plays in a dink-and-dump passing attack. Bradford projects as a low-upside QB2.

Vikings | Pat Elflein to compete for starting job

Sun, 02 Jul 2017 13:07:29 -0700

Minnesota Vikings C Pat Elflein will compete with C Nick Easton for the starting center job during training camp. Elflein saw some snaps with the starters during offseason workouts, but Easton received a majority of the snaps with the first-team offense.

Vikings | More production for Laquon Treadwell?

Fri, 30 Jun 2017 20:59:12 -0700

Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur believes he can utilize his weapons more effectively with a full offseason in his role, and Conor Orr of NFL.com thinks WR Laquon Treadwell could be one of the main beneficiaries.

Fantasy Tip: Treadwell has yet to make an impact in the NFL, but the former first-round pick has enough potential to take a chance on as a WR5.

Vikings | Dalvin Cook has leg up in RB competition

Thu, 29 Jun 2017 19:34:15 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook has an early leg up in the running back competition, according to RB Latavius Murray. "Dalvin's already been through the organized team activities, he's already been through the offseason," Murray said. "So, he has that up on me."

Fantasy Tip: Murray also said he expects to the starter in Week 1, but it remains to be seen how the carries will be split between Murray and Cook. Both backs are RB3 candidates, and Cook figures to have more upside in PPR formats and long-term value.
