Johnson to achieve record ESPN.com reports fans of the Kansas City Chiefs have started an online petition asking general manager Scott Pioli to deactivate RB Larry Johnson so that he cannot surpass former NFL RB Priest Holmes for the team's all-time rushing record. Johnson is just 75 yards shy of the record. "We are asking you, as fans of this team, this organization, and of the pride that this city has in the Chiefs, please deactivate Larry Johnson. Please do not let his name sit atop the all-time rushing leaders in Kansas City Chiefs history," the petition says. "He has never represented anything close to the values that we have for our Chiefs and it would be another dagger to the fans that continue to support this proud franchise." Chiefs | Charles has opportunity to be featured running back in Week 9 Adam Teicher, of The Kansas City Star, reports Week 9 will provide the Kansas City Chiefs with an opportunity to get a good look at RB Jamaal Charles as their featured back due to the suspension of RB Larry Johnson. "I think this is an opportunity for Jamaal," head coach Todd Haley said, "without a doubt." Charles makes more sense as a featured back in Week 9 over RB Kolby Smith (knee) because Smith hasn't played since injuring a knee midway through last season. However, Charles has only 23 carries in seven games this season, and most have been draws and other runs out of passing formations. Charles also has had fumbling issues. However, the team is cautious of the precedent releasing Johnson might set. The team does not want to send a message that if a player wants out of Kansas City, all he would have to do is speak out or act up to get his way. The team is keeping a close eye on Johnson and how he reacts to his suspension, according to the source. Chiefs | Johnson may still face punishment from league Updating previous reports, The Associated Press reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Larry Johnson's agent Peter Schaffer said nothing has been signed in regards to an agreement between Johnson and the Chiefs to reduce his suspension in half, saving him more than $300,000. "We've been working hard at it since Thursday," Schaffer said. "We think we have a positive resolution and we'll be able to move forward in the right direction." The two-week suspension would have cost Johnson about $630,000. He may still face punishment from the NFL, too. Chiefs | Reach settlement with L. Last spring, an arbitrator ruled that the Chiefs could release the running back and not owe him $3.5 million in guaranteed money because he had violated contract conditions by pleading guilty to disturbing the peace in another incident.
