Jaguars | Blake Bortles dominating in garbage time

Wed, 16 Aug 2017 21:57:52 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles has the highest passer rating (111) in the NFL over the last two seasons during garbage time (defined as the last five minutes of the fourth quarter and the losing team is down nine or more points), having completed 78-of-118 passes for 964 yards, with 12 touchdowns versus only four interceptions. Additionally, since 2015, 20.7 percent of Bortles' touchdown passes have come in these instances, which is nearly four times the average for the rest of the league.

Fantasy Tip: Experienced fantasy owners are probably already aware of Bortles' elite ability to pad his stats in meaningless situations, but it's even more glaring when you look at the actual numbers. Still, it shouldn't really tempt owners to draft the fourth-year pro as their starter, as Bortles was a huge letdown last season when many expected him to make a giant leap. He'll be entering a make-or-break campaign and hasn't really exhibited any encouraging signs this summer.

Jaguars | Blake Bortles' arm is OK

Tue, 15 Aug 2017 23:51:36 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles indicated his arm was "fine" when speaking to reporters Tuesday, Aug. 15. This came after head coach Doug Marrone said he rested Bortles over the weekend because the quarterback looked like he had a tired arm.

Fantasy Tip: Expectations are down dramatically for Bortles this year, and there's a presumption the team will lean on its ground game, diminishing Bortles' role in the process. He has some weapons, but Bortles currently rates as a shaky fantasy backup.

Jaguars | Allen Hurns back on the field

Mon, 14 Aug 2017 16:59:51 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns (undisclosed) participated in practice Monday, Aug. 14, and appeared to be a full participant.

Fantasy Tip: Hurns missed a few practices because of his injury but should be ready to go moving forward. He is coming off a disappointing performance last season but should continue to be a top-three receiver for the Jaguars in 2017. He can be considered a late-round option in leagues as a No. 5 fantasy receiver.

Jaguars | Leonard Fournette won't play Thursday

Mon, 14 Aug 2017 12:12:42 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette (foot) will not play Thursday, Aug. 17, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because of his foot injury, according to head coach Doug Marrone.

Fantasy Tip: The Jaguars will take it easy with their highly touted rookie so as to not aggravate the injury. Fournette had foot issues in college, too, so they'll be especially careful. As long as Fournette doesn't have any setbacks, he remains a low-end RB1 to high-end RB2 consideration.

Jaguars | Marqise Lee has high ankle sprain

Mon, 14 Aug 2017 07:19:05 -0700

Updating previous reports, Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee (ankle) is out with a high ankle sprain. He will attempt to return before Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: These are usually four-to-six-week injuries, and Week 1 should be considered doubtful. Lee falls back to a WR5 flyer. Rashad Greene could see more time in the slot, but he's a fringe WR5.

Jaguars | Leonard Fournette sits out practice Sunday

Sun, 13 Aug 2017 11:59:41 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette (foot) sat out of practice due to a foot injury Sunday, Aug. 13. Head coach Doug Marrone was noncommittal when asked if the injury would keep Fournette out of the team's second preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, Aug. 17. "It's been something that has been growing. ... The other day, it was sore so we said, 'Hey, let's not take any chances. … We're going to be really cautious with that. If it puts anything in jeopardy for a longer deal, then I probably won't (play him Thursday)," Marrone said.

Fantasy Tip: Fournette is a solid bet to carry the ball 300-plus times in 2017, so the Jaguars will probably opt to sit him against Tampa Bay. For now, he remains a solid pick in the middle of the second round in fantasy drafts. Expect T.J. Yeldon and Chris Ivory to see the bulk of the work in the first half versus the Buccaneers.

Jaguars | Marqise Lee injury update

Sun, 13 Aug 2017 11:23:33 -0700

Updating a previous report, Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee (leg) reportedly did not suffer a serious leg injury as initially feared after he was carted off during practice Sunday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Lee is still extremely likely to miss a few practices, but the Jaguars can feel good they appear to have dodged a bit of a bullet. Assuming he does not miss significant time, Lee can be considered a low-end WR4 for fantasy purposes.

Jaguars | Marqise Lee injured in practice Sunday

Sun, 13 Aug 2017 10:24:19 -0700

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee (leg) was carted off with a right leg injury suffered during practice Sunday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip: It was reportedly a non-contact injury during 7-on-7 drills and Lee was placed in an aircast, suggesting he is dealing with a potentially serious injury. The fourth-year pro was coming off a breakout season, enjoying a great camp and was arguably the best receiver for the Jaguars last year, so a season-ending injury would be a tough blow. Any prolonged absence would likely lead to more targets for Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns.
