Houston Texans impending free-agent CB A.J. Bouye likely will not receive the franchise tag this offseason because of the team's salary cap situation. The Texans are expected to have around $25 million in salary cap space available, but Bouye would be scheduled to receive a little more than $14 million in 2017 if he received the franchise tag.

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler has all the traits to be a successful quarterback, according to retired head coach Gary Kubiak, and Kubiak said Osweiler is "going to be fine" in the long run.

Fantasy Tip: Despite Kubiak's optimism, Osweiler likely played himself into a quarterback competition with his poor performance this season. Even if he breaks camp as the starter, he doesn't need to be drafted.

Fantasy Tip: Osweiler or Savage would be a backup in fantasy if they win the job. There are some players to work with at the skill positions, and either could be a matchup play.

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair said QB Brock Osweiler needs to step up his performance next season after he struggled in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Osweiler was bench near the end of the season because of his performance but did play the last few games because of an injury to Tom Savage. He probably will have to compete for the starting job during training camp but can be avoided in fantasy leagues if he wins the job.

Texans | DeAndre Hopkins may receive new deal

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair said the team will try to sign WR DeAndre Hopkins to a long-term extension this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Hopkins had a disappointing 2016 season and finished with 954 yards and four touchdowns during the regular season. He played better during the playoffs with 11 catches for 132 yards and one touchdown in two games. He will continue to be the team's top receiver in the passing game in 2017 and can be a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 receiver in leagues depending on the quarterback situation.

Houston Texans owner Bob McNair said he would like to see QB Tom Savage compete for the starting quarterback job next season.

Fantasy Tip: Savage started a few games at the end of the season but was sidelined during the playoffs because of a concussion. He probably would have to compete with Brock Osweiler and maybe another quarterback during training camp, but the winner of the job should be avoided by fantasy owners.
