The Houston Texans have discussed free-agent RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis (Bengals) internally, as the staff is familiar with him from head coach Bill O'Brien's time with the New England Patriots. Green-Ellis is healthy and ready.
Fantasy Tip: Arian Foster suffered a groin injury which is likely to cost him at least half of the regular season, so they need depth. However, it's Alfred Blue who is expected to be the bellcow in the Houston offense in Foster's stead.

Free-agent RB Jeff Demps (Patriots) is a player the Houston Texans are interested in. He is a former Olympic track athlete, but he is completely committed to football now and retired from track, according to a source. Demps worked out for an NFC team Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Fantasy Tip: Demps could be an option to help plug the hole left by Arian Foster, who is expected to miss the first eight games as he recovers from groin surgery. If signed, he would simply provide depth, and could be a player who helps out on special teams, too.

Fantasy Tip: Thomas had his worst statistical season since 2010 last year, although he was limited to just 11 games. Thomas will help fill in for Arian Foster in the passing game in Houston, and he'll be a worthy flier late in standard drafts, with more value in PPR leagues.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that this isn't happening in the midst of the season. The bad news is that Foster will probably still miss at least the first few weeks of the season. Alfred Blue becomes the top priority on the waiver wire for those who drafted Foster. For those who haven't drafted yet, Foster turns into a mid-round pick and should no longer be viewed as a RB1.

Fantasy Tip: Polk could be used more now that Arian Foster is expected to miss a good amount of time with upcoming groin surgery. He'll still back up Alfred Blue, but Polk may turn into a deep sleeper. He scored four times on just 46 attempts last season.

Fantasy Tip: Exactly when Foster will be able to return is still not known, but he will probably be forced to miss the first few games of the season at the least. Alfred Blue is now essentially a must add for those who have already drafted Foster. Foster is now out of the RB1 conversation.

Fantasy Tip: If Foster required surgery on his injured groin, Blue will play an important role for the Texans, at least for the first half of the season. If you decide to take the risk and draft Foster, Blue should be an option later in drafts.

Fantasy Tip: If Foster does need surgery, Alfred Blue will already be one of the hottest waiver wire pickups of the year. Foster adds this injury to the plethora of injuries he has sustained in his career. He is one of the riskier top-end running backs in fantasy football. Those who have drafted and/or will draft him may want to take him later than he's currently being drafted and/or draft Blue in a later round as well. If Foster doesn't need surgery, it's a different story, but he still comes with risk considering his injury history.

Fantasy Tip: We already knew that Foster was injury-prone, and he's becoming more of an injury risk as he ages. Be extremely careful not to overvalue Foster in fantasy football drafts because of his past success. Handcuffing him to Alfred Blue would be wise. There's a good chance that Foster could be a bust for his owners in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Hopkins will be the receiver fantasy owners target early on draft day, but there could be some value with Washington in the middle to late rounds if he can maintain a starting role. You could do worse for your WR4 or flex fantasy option in standard fantasy formats.

Houston Texans QB Ryan Mallet worked with the first-team offense Sunday, Aug. 2, after QB Brian Hoyer worked with the first-team Saturday, Aug. 1. "Whenever he (Bill O'Brien) feels like someone is ready to be named the starter that's what he'll do, and whatever way it goes, I have really a lot of trust and faith in him," Hoyer said. "Whatever he decides will be best for the team."
Fantasy Tip: It wouldn't be a surprise to see both Hoyer and Mallet start games this year, but don't expect either quarterback to be more than a mid-range QB2.
