Houston Texans news, rumors and injuriesMon, 17 Jun 2013 07:04:19 -0700 Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (calf) said he'll most likely be ready for training camp. Fantasy Tip: It's a bit noteworthy that there is even a question that he'll be ready. We expect him to be there, but this is the first inclination that he may not be ready. Share: Texans | Coach concerned about RT situation Sun, 16 Jun 2013 09:57:07 -0700 Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said he is concerned about the team's situation at right tackle because OT Derek Newton (knee) and OT Brennan Williams (knee) were not able to participate in offseason workouts. "If you look at our roster, it looks good, but the bottom line is the guys aren't out there, so that's concerning for us as a team and me as a coach," Kubiak said. "I love the way Newton has worked. I think he made a lot of progress as a player last year. He played hurt at the end of the year, which was tough on him and us as a team. We drafted a young man with a lot of ability (Williams). He hasn't been out here yet." Both are expected to be ready for training camp. Share: Texans | Brian Cushing expects to get clearance next month Sat, 15 Jun 2013 08:21:06 -0700 Houston Texans LB Brian Cushing (knee) said he expects to receive medical clearance from Dr. James Andrews by July 17. Share: Texans | DeAndre Hopkins impresses Fri, 14 Jun 2013 07:14:05 -0700 Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins impressed head coach Gary Kubiak in minicamp. "I've been impressed. He struggled early - which we knew he would - but I think it helps when you throw a guy in with the ones right away because he gets coached by (Matt) Schaub," Kubiak said. "But the last three days he's impressed me because he hasn't had Matt and he hasn't had Andre (Johnson) out here and he's been on top of what he's doing. He's obviously very gifted. We've just got to make sure we've got him doing what he does best." Share: Texans | David Quessenberry impressing coaches Thu, 13 Jun 2013 12:11:43 -0700 Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said he has been impressed with OT David Quessenberry's work at right tackle during offseason workouts. "I'm impressed with how far he's come," Kubiak said. "He's obviously been put in a very tough spot, but sometimes that's how you find a heck of a player." Quessenberry has seen time with the first-team offense because of injuries to OTs Derek Newton (knee) and Brennan Williams (knee). Share: Texans | Ed Reed blames Tom Brady for injury Tue, 11 Jun 2013 16:27:22 -0700 Houston Texans FS Ed Reed (hip) blamed New England Patriots QB Tom Brady for his hip injury. "The only play I could look at is when I got kicked by a certain quarterback," Reed said Tuesday, June 11, at Texans minicamp. "But even then, I played in the Super Bowl and you saw what happened there." Share: Texans | Ed Reed injury update Tue, 11 Jun 2013 11:17:37 -0700 Houston Texans FS Ed Reed (hip) said his rehab is going well and that he is hoping to be ready for September. "It's going well right now, Reed said. There's really no timeline. We're just gonna keep on grinding and keep on working and shoot for September." Share: Texans | Tim Jamison could be ready for camp Sun, 09 Jun 2013 08:40:03 -0700 Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said the team is hoping DE Tim Jamison (Achilles') will be ready for the start of training camp. Kubiak said Jamison is doing well in his rehab from the injury. Share: Texans | Andrew Gardner to work with starters Fri, 07 Jun 2013 15:56:38 -0700 Houston Texans OT Andrew Gardner will work with the first-team offense at left tackle during the team's upcoming minicamp because OT Duane Brown (foot) will not be able to participate. Share: Texans | Make roster move Thu, 06 Jun 2013 14:29:05 -0700 The Houston Texans signed undrafted free agent TE Adam Schiltz (Emporia State) Thursday, June 6. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Share: Texans | More on Ed Reed Thu, 06 Jun 2013 09:46:28 -0700 Updating a previous report, Houston Texans FS Ed Reed (hip) plans to be out on the field for Week 1 if he's physically able. He said he's currently ahead of schedule in his rehab from hip surgery, but he'll make sure not to overdo things in the offseason. Fantasy Tip: Reed is entering his age-35 season and coming off surgery. Not the best two combination of things at this stage of a football player's career, that's for sure. He can still be a play maker in the secondary, but his skills are declining, and we wonder how often he'll be on the field. Consider him a late-round selection in IDP drafts. Share: Texans | Ed Reed unsure about Week 1 status Wed, 05 Jun 2013 12:32:30 -0700 Houston Texans FS Ed Reed (hip) said he plans on being ready for the start of regular season but will not rush back if he is not ready. "I plan on being back for Week 1," Reed said. "But as you've known me for the longest time, I'm going to be smart about my injuries and make sure I'm there for the later part of the season when the team really needs me." Share: Texans | Duane Brown having surgery Wed, 05 Jun 2013 07:22:48 -0700 Houston Texans OT Duane Brown (ankle) is having surgery Wednesday, June 5, to shave down bone spurs in his ankle. He could miss as much as a month. Share: Texans | More targets for Andre Johnson? Tue, 04 Jun 2013 18:00:15 -0700 Houston Texans WR Andre Johnson caught 112 passes for 1,598 yards in 2012, which ended up being 58.1 percent of all Texans pass targets, a league high percentage. Head coach Gary Kubiak does not intend on scaling back the percentage and spreading it around in 2013. "It's going to happen again," Kubiak said. Fantasy Tip: Johnson hauled in 69 percent of his targets for receptions, which was a tremendous catch rate. With what Kubiak is saying during the offseason, fantasy owners will once again want Johnson as a top wide receiver, as nothing appears to be changing anytime soon with how the team uses their biggest receiving weapon. Share: Texans | Need to develop more reliable secondary WR Tue, 04 Jun 2013 17:59:33 -0700 The Houston Texans want to have more reliable targets outside of WR Andre Johnson in the receiving game. Last season, WR Lestar Jean hauled in 50 percent of his targets for catches, while WR DeVier Posey (Achilles') racked up catches on 43 percent of his targets. WR Keshawn Martin managed to catch just 36 percent of his targets. Fantasy Tip: Someone will need to step up and replace Kevin Walter, who has since moved on to the Tennessee Titans. He was good for a catch rate of 60 percent of his targets. Jean appears to be the most likely candidate to succeed, as he can be a downfield threat and he had a high catch ratio. Martin also showed glimpses of brilliance, but is still rather raw. Posey is making his way back from a torn Achilles' suffered in January, and his timetable remains uncertain. Right now, only Jean and Martin are worth late-round fliers on Draft Day. Share: ![]() |
