Texans | Brock Osweiler talks chemistry with WRs

Wed, 24 Aug 2016 10:40:26 -0700

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler is encouraged by the chemistry he is developing with his receivers following the second preseason game. "I think the receivers are understanding when I want to get the ball out versus man versus maybe a zone coverage. Obviously, I'm learning the body language of each wide receiver when he's going to come out of his break, how he likes his football, where he likes his football. Every single day we're getting better."

Fantasy Tip: Osweiler is a low-end quarterback option who should be left to the waiver wire outside of SuperFlex and two-QB leagues. There is some potential in the revamped Houston attack, but fantasy owners should wait to see the offense clicking before relying on Osweiler as anything more than a desperation start.

Texans | Nick Novak has cleared protocol

Tue, 23 Aug 2016 14:59:22 -0700

Houston Texans PK Nick Novak (concussion) cleared the NFL's concussion protocol and returned to practice Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: There are better options, for sure, but Novak isn't the worst starting kicker for fantasy purposes. He made 18 of his 21 field goal attempts last season and 29 of 31 extra point attempts.

Texans | Braxton Miller could start in slot

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 21:37:59 -0700

Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller has been the starting slot receiver in the first two preseason games, and offensive coordinator Bob Godsey said he has been impressed with Miller's commitment to developing relationships with his quarterbacks and coaches.

Fantasy Tip: Miller's transition to receiver appears to be going well, and he should only improve as the season goes on. He is a more appealing option in dynasty formats, but Miller is still worth a late-round gamble as a WR5 in standard leagues.

Texans | Nick Novak in concussion protocol

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 13:11:56 -0700

Houston Texans PK Nick Novak (concussion) is in the NFL's concussion protocol.

Fantasy Tip: Novak hasn't even technically won the starting kicker position yet, but he's probably still the favorite. Kickers are a dime a dozen, but Novak would be in low-end PK1 range if he does start.

Texans | Will Fuller everything as advertised

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 22:22:48 -0700

Houston Texans WR Will Fuller snared four balls for 73 yards and a touchdown on eight targets in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 20, against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Fuller looked awfully sharp, but remember he was also facing one of the worst secondaries in the NFL. Fuller will start out in the WR5 range for fantasy owners, worthy of a late-round flyer on draft day. However, he could very well move into the WR3 range by season's end if he stays healthy and Brock Osweiler can take a big step forward.

Texans | Brock Osweiler decent in victory

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 22:22:18 -0700

Houston Texans QB Brock Osweiler completed 12 of his 19 pass attempts for 124 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 20, against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Osweiler looked a lot more comfortable in this game than his debut. He is going to be just fine as long as DeAndre Hopkins stays healthy, Will Fuller continues to progress and either Jaelen Strong or Braxton Miller can emerge as another viable target. He remains more of a low-end QB2 in most standard fantasy formats with some room to move up.

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 22:21:22 -0700

Houston Texans OT Duane Brown (quadriceps) missed the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 20, against the New Orleans Saints, as expected. He remains hopeful to be ready for the regular season opener, as he progresses from a torn quadriceps muscle.

Saints | Cooks, Snead sitting vs. Texans

Sat, 20 Aug 2016 16:48:23 -0700

New Orleans WR Brandin Cooks and WR Willie Snead will not play in the team's exhibition game against the Houston Texans on Saturday, Aug. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Neither player is known to be dealing with an injury, so the Saints' decision to sit both starters is likely just a way to give rookie Michael Thomas and others behind him on the depth chart plenty of snaps to show their wares. Look for Cooks and Snead to play most of the first half when New Orleans hosts the Pittsburgh Steelers next Friday.

Texans | J.J. Watt progressing, status still unclear

Fri, 19 Aug 2016 08:42:49 -0700

Houston Texans DE J.J. Watt (back) has head coach Bill O'Brien encouraged by Watt's progress from back surgery. However, O'Brien is still unsure about Watt's availability for the first two games of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Watt is the cream of the crop as far as defensive linemen go in fantasy, and it's not even close. If he continues to progress and avoids setback, he's still firmly atop the D-line perch in fantasy.

Texans | Tom Savage declared backup QB

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 17:02:58 -0700

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage has been named the team's backup quarterback by head coach Bill O'Brien.

Fantasy Tip: Savage was competing with Brandon Weeden for the job and has apparently emerged as the victor in this position battle. This probably won't have much of a fantasy impact, if any, though it's worth noting that current starter Brock Osweiler dealt with injury last season.
