Texans | Braxton Miller working towards big year

Sat, 24 Jun 2017 18:39:16 -0700

Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller has spent time diving into the playbook to better understand coverages, according to wide receivers coach John Perry, and Perry believes Miller has the versatility to play in the slot and outside.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has enough upside to take a chance on in the final rounds, but he could still be a year away from making a consistent impact.

Texans | Deshaun Watson coming along nicely

Fri, 23 Jun 2017 10:57:54 -0700

Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson has impressed head coach Bill O'Brien with his poise, intelligence and athleticism in a recent interview with the Houston Chronicle. "He's a very poised guy. I like the way he carries himself. I like the way he operates. He's a rookie, and he's not nearly where he needs to be to be a full-time starter in this league, but you can tell he's got a lot of qualities you like. … For being a rookie, he's wise beyond his years. … You don't see him make the same mistake twice," O'Brien said.

Fantasy Tip: While O'Brien's comments bode well for Watson's future, they should actually reinforce the notion Tom Savage will begin the season as the starter. How quickly that changes will obviously be up to how quickly Watson gets O'Brien's offense down pat. With that said, Savage has shown little ability to stay healthy in the NFL, making it very likely Watson will get a few starts at some point in 2017.

Texans | Braxton Miller making strides

Thu, 22 Jun 2017 21:43:04 -0700

Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller was praised for his progress in OTAs by assistant coach Wes Welker.

Fantasy Tip: Miller has the speed and agility to be a weapon out of the slot, but he is a work in progress as a receiver. Feel free to take a late-round flier on him in redraft leagues, but he is much more valuable in keeper formats.

Texans | Houston wants to keep Lamar Miller fresh

Wed, 21 Jun 2017 11:22:00 -0700

Houston Texans RB Lamar Miller received 268 carries in 2016 but likely will see a drop in his carries this season so the team could keep him fresher later in the season. Running backs coach Charles London said the team has a diverse group of running backs, which will allow the team to balance Miller's workload.

Fantasy Tip: Miller finished in the top 10 in rushing with 1,073 yards and his 268 carries ranked sixth among running backs in 2016. He probably will lose some work to Alfred Blue and D'Onta Foreman this season but will continue to be the main focus in the running game. Owners in most leagues should consider Miller a low-end No. 1 fantasy running back.

Texans | High expectations for Benardrick McKinney

Tue, 20 Jun 2017 13:35:18 -0700

Houston Texans LB Benardrick McKinney posted a team-high 129 tackles in 2016, but linebackers coach Bobby King believes he can play better. "He can still get better, as he would tell you, too," King said. "We're expecting big things out of him leadership-wise and playmaking-wise." DE J.J. Watt also believes that McKinney is only going to get better as he enters his third season in the NFL.

Sun, 18 Jun 2017 18:49:57 -0700

Houston Texans WR Braxton Miller and WR Will Fuller have made big jumps in their second seasons, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Fantasy Tip: Fuller is worth taking a chance on as a high-risk, high-reward WR4, but Miller remains a work in progress and can be left on the waiver wire outside of keeper leagues.

Texans | Tom Savage still in lead for QB job

Fri, 16 Jun 2017 13:24:07 -0700

Houston Texans QB Tom Savage is still considered the leading candidate for the starting No. 1 quarterback but will have to earn the job during training camp, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Fantasy Tip: The Texans selected Deshaun Watson in the draft, but Savage likely will begin the 2017 season as the starting quarterback. Savage threw for 461 yards in his three games this past season and has been working on his chemistry with the receivers during offseason workouts. Owners in all leagues should avoid Savage in all drafts.
