Houston Texans news, rumors and injuries

Updating previous reports, Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning was the subject of preliminary trade discussions with the Houston Texans, according to a source. The talks occurred before Manning restructured his deal and the Texans signed QB Brian Hoyer. If the Texans were to acquire Manning they would have had to restructure Manning's deal and SportsRadio 610's source says the money in Houston would not have been as high as the $15 million Manning got from the Broncos.
Fantasy Tip: These types of talks probably take place all the time, but it's an indication that Manning is no longer among the handful of players that are untouchable. Manning is probably at the last rung of the elite QB tier in fantasy and should remain in the top five taken at the position.

Fantasy Tip: DeAndre Hopkins is already a sure bet to start and will be the Texans' No. 1 wide receiver. With Andre Johnson gone, that leaves the No. 2 receiver spot open, likely for either Strong or newly acquired Nate Washington. Neither should be very high on 2015 fantasy draft boards, however, but Strong has more upside.

Houston Texans CB Johnathan Joseph signed a new three-year contract worth $22.5 million Thursday, June 18. It comes with $11.5 million guaranteed and Joseph will be able to earn an extra $500,000 per year on 46-man roster bonuses.

Fantasy Tip: Fiedorowicz has said he feels more comfortable with the offense in his second offseason. He will stay play behind Garrett Graham, who is more of a pass-catching tight end. Fiedorowicz will only have fantasy value if Graham is injured.

Fantasy Tip: Washington will at least play behind DeAndre Hopkins and Cecil Shorts, and could also end up behind rookie Jaelen Strong and/or others. He has minimal fantasy value and is more of a waiver wire pickup.

Houston Texans WR Damaris Johnson has consistently played well in practices, in the opinion of beat writer John McClain. McClain tweeted: "every time I look up he's catching a pass or a touchdown pass."
Fantasy Tip: Johnson has a chance to claim a good chunk of targets in the slot and is worth monitoring as a WR5 flyer possibility

Fantasy Tip: The team's offense has an opening for Strong to win a decent chunk of, but the team has criticized his conditioning. He still has time to make up ground and could be worth a flyer at the end of drafts as a WR5.

Houston Texans LB Brian Cushing (wrist, knee, ankle) is moving well so far this offseason as he recovers from a slew of injuries last season. Cushing had surgeries on his left ankle, left knee and right wrist. Cushing said he is getting his range and explosiveness back and feels like he can play anywhere on the field.

Updating a previous report, Houston Texans LB Jadeveon Clowney (knee) should be ready for Week 1, but the team isn't planning to give him a full load of snaps right away, according to head coach Bill O'Brien.

Houston Texans QBs Ryan Mallett and Brian Hoyer are candidates for the starting quarterback job, and head coach Bill O'Brien indicated the team may name a starting quarterback before the start of training camp.
Fantasy Tip: Mallett and Hoyer have been competing during offseason workouts, and O'Brien could make his decision based on those practices. Neither quarterback has great fantasy value and would be No. 2 fantasy quarterbacks if they win the job.

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster will get plenty of work on the ground this season, so long as he can stay healthy, according to head coach Bill O'Brien Wednesday, June 10. "Well, we have a very good running back," O'Brien said. "So you can rest assured that as long as he's healthy and he's out there, we will run the ball. I can tell you that. That's one thing we will do," said O'Brien. Foster has been available throughout organized team activities, and he has attended all of the Texans' voluntary offseason programs.
Fantasy Tip: Foster played 10 full games last season and parts of three others. Foster finished the season with 1,246 yards on the ground, 327 through the air, and 13 total touchdowns. At 28 years old, Foster should still have a couple seasons of elite-level production left in him, if he can stay healthy. Foster should be considered as a top-10 running back in redraft leagues.

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins (wrist) has not been participating in organized team activities since he is recovering from offseason surgery. Head coach Bill O'Brien said he believe Hopkins will be ready to participate at some point during training camp.
Fantasy Tip: Hopkins does not need to rush back from his surgery, so he is taking his time this offseason. He is coming off a terrific season in 2014 and could be an option in one of the early rounds of drafts next season.

Fantasy Tip: Godsey being named the offensive coordinator likely will not have a big impact on the fantasy values of the offensive players on the Texans since head coach Bill O'Brien should still be involved in the offensive decisions.
