Houston Texans impending free-agent QB Ryan Mallett (pectoral) is recovering from surgery on a torn pectoral muscle. Mallett said he's already thrown a football and that the recovery process is day-by-day.
Fantasy Tip: Again, there's still no guarantee that Mallett will even stay with the team. Even if he does stay in Houston, he'll need to win the starting quarterback job. And if is the starter, he'll still only be a low-end QB2 at best.

Houston Texans impending free-agent QB Ryan Mallett said he'd like stay with the Texans and hopes both parties can get a new contract worked out. Mallett is recovering from surgery on a torn muscle in his pectoral. Mallett said the recovery is a day-by-day process.
Fantasy Tip: If Mallett does stay and wins the starting quarterback job, he'll still be no more than a backup fantasy quarterback.

Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins (wrist) said in a radio interview that he had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his wrist after the regular season. He said he had a pin and rod inserted into the wrist that was set to be removed Saturday, Feb. 21. He expects to resume regular activities in a couple of weeks.
Fantasy Tip: The report sounds positive and this isn't something expected to impact Hopkins for very much longer. He is a young player on the rise and will be a very popular fantasy option in the early rounds in most formats going forward.

Fantasy Tip: O'Brien did not specify whether he meant Keenum had a future as backup or as a starter. Keep in mind the Texans have Ryan Mallett as well at quarterback, and Mallett worked well under Tom Brady in New England. Keenum's fantasy value depends entirely on whether he starts or holds a clipboard, so wait and see how this develops.

Houston Texans RB Arian Foster will have his carries managed in game more often in 2015, according to head coach Bill O'Brien. O'Brien also said that running back is a position the team will look at in the 2015 NFL Draft.
Fantasy Tip: Foster should still be considered a No. 1 running back for fantasy purposes, but if the Texans do use an early pick on a running back, that player will be worth owning as an insurance policy if you end up drafting Foster.

Fantasy Tip: Mallett would at least have a leg up on any potential quarterback competition. He'd be a low-end QB2 in fantasy.

Houston Texans impending free-agent CB Kareem Jackson would love to return to the team in 2015. "I'd love to be back here," Jackson said. "What Coach O'Brien has brought here with the coaches and stuff like that, with the system and stuff like that, I definitely want to be a part of what's starting to happen last year and progressing into the future."

Houston Texans QBs Ryan Fitzpatrick, Ryan Mallett and Case Keenum will all be evaluated by the coaching staff this offseason, but head coach Bill O'Brien said the team is keeping their options open at the position. "We'll make the right decision and it will probably be a competition," O'Brien said. "It will be something where guys come in and compete and have to win the job and that's the way it should be and that's what we're looking to do." Mallett will become a free agent in March.
Fantasy Tip: It's really anyone's guess as to what the Texans will do at the QB position to start the 2015 season. Mallett has the most upside, but it's unknown if Houston will try to bring him back this offseason. No matter what, whoever has the job at the end of training camp won't be anything more than a low-end backup quarterback.
