Packers | Jamaal Williams the power back?

Fri, 21 Jul 2017 21:30:13 -0700

Green Bay Packers RB Jamaal Williams said he "likes to bruise" and believes he can help wear down defenses in the third and fourth quarters of games.

Fantasy Tip: Williams could be a nice complement to Ty Montgomery, especially if he earns carries near the goal line. He is worth scooping up in the later rounds.

Packers | Jeff Janis could be on the bubble

Thu, 20 Jul 2017 23:10:53 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis could be in danger of not making the team, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, after the Packers invested draft picks on WRs Malachi Dupre and DeAngelo Yancey as well as the emergence of WR Geronimo Allison. Janis did little as a receiver last season but has been one of their top performers on special teams.

Packers | Jamaal Williams will be No. 2 back

Thu, 20 Jul 2017 10:14:15 -0700

Green Bay Packers rookie RB Jamaal Williams will begin training camp as the No. 2 running back behind RB Ty Montgomery, according to running backs coach Ben Sirmans.

Fantasy Tip: Williams is one of the more promising rookie running backs heading into 2017. Montgomery played well as a running back last year, so Williams will really have to prove himself in order to see significant playing time. Use a late-round pick on the rookie and possibly an earlier selection for those who own Montgomery.

Packers | Geronimo Allison given tall comparison

Wed, 19 Jul 2017 07:54:41 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Geronimo Allison was compared to former New Orleans Saints WR Marques Colston as a big, powerful receiver, according to one scout.

Fantasy Tip: Allison had eight grabs for 157 yards and a touchdown in the final two games of the regular season. The problem for him, though, is the glut of options ahead of him, and the team said they want to utilize the tight end position more. He's worth consideration as a WR5 flyer, but he may need an injury to have fantasy merit.

Packers | Davante Adams in a contract year

Wed, 19 Jul 2017 07:49:48 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Davante Adams is entering the final year of his rookie contract in 2017. His 12 touchdowns tied for fourth in the NFL last season.

Fantasy Tip: Adams is plenty motivated to prove he's a No. 1 receiver, and with Jordy Nelson aging and Randall Cobb's injury propensity and a down year in 2016, it's a pivotal year for Adams and the team. What's clear is Aaron Rodgers leans on Nelson first, and Adams is in the mix with everyone else. He's a high-end WR3 target, but it may be tough to select him as such.

Packers | Belief remains in Randall Cobb

Wed, 19 Jul 2017 07:46:08 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Randall Cobb still has the team's belief in him after his three-touchdown performance in the wild-card game against the New York Giants. "I think you saw him in those playoff games," wide receivers coach Luke Getsy said, "and he wasn't even totally healthy, and you saw who he is. He's an impactful guy. You take the Giants game early in the year, and it's third-and-long, and we throw the ball way short of the sticks and he's the only guy on the football team that makes that play for us."

Fantasy Tip: Cobb has battled injuries two seasons in a row, and he slumped to a 60-610-4 line last season. He morphed into a short-route receiver, and maybe that's what he's ultimately used as in order to keep him healthy. He's still just 27 in August, and it's still possible he returns to the WR2 fray. However, taking him as anything more than a WR3 simply adds too much risk.

Packers | Jordy Nelson evolved into slot receiver

Wed, 19 Jul 2017 07:33:42 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson ran nearly half of his routes from the slot and the perimeter in the final 10 games last season. In 181 routes run from the slot, according to Pro Football Focus, Nelson led the NFL with 2.75 yards per route.

Fantasy Tip: Nelson dipped to 13.0 yards per reception last season, but he still produced a 97-1,257-14 year. He's 32 now, and this role in the slot could be his norm. It might be tough for him to return to the 1,500-yard plateau, but with good health, he could eclipse the 100-catch mark for the first time in his career. He doesn't have much upside at this stage, but he's still a low-end WR1 candidate.

Packers | Green Bay has embraced TE in red zone

Tue, 11 Jul 2017 20:02:30 -0700

Green Bay Packers TEs Andrew Quarless (13) and Richard Rodgers (14) ranked among the team's top three players in red zone targets in 2014 in 2015, respectively, before Jared Cook's injury-plagued 2016 campaign ruined the streak. Martellus Bennett signed a three-year, $21 million contract to be the team's top tight end in the offseason.

Fantasy Tip: There seems to be a notion Aaron Rodgers doesn't throw to his tight ends nearly enough, but owners need to keep in mind the last time he had someone as talented as Bennett was when Jermichael Finley was healthy in 2011. Bennett is being drafted like a low-end TE1, but he has arguably the best shot among tight ends drafted after the first four or five rounds to compete with the likes of Rob Gronkowski, Travis Kelce and Jordan Reed.

Packers | Jordy Nelson busy inside red zone

Tue, 11 Jul 2017 17:10:08 -0700

Green Bay Packers WR Jordy Nelson recorded a league-high 29 targets inside the red zone last year, including an NFL-best 15 inside the 10.

Fantasy Tip: In each of his last three healthy seasons (2013, 2014 and 2016), Nelson has seen at least 22 targets inside the red zone and 11 inside the 10. Last year, his 11 touchdowns inside the 20 and nine scores inside the 10 were each the best marks in the league by three. The arrival of Martellus Bennett is probably going to bring those totals down a bit, but there's no question the 32-year-old will remain Aaron Rodgers' go-to guy. Nelson remains a solid WR1 in all leagues.

Packers | Aaron Rodgers excited for TE group

Thu, 29 Jun 2017 20:36:45 -0700

Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said the additions of TE Martellus Bennett and TE Lance Kendricks give the offense more flexibility to run two-tight end sets. "Both guys can put their hand on the ground and go and block guys really well but also add that dimension in the passing game," Rodgers said.

Fantasy Tip: Bennett should headline the tight end group, and he is probably the best tight end Rodgers will have worked with. He should be able to produce TE1 numbers in Green Bay's potent passing attack.
