Packers | Driver's dad reportedly beaten by Houston police

The Associated Press reports the family of Green Bay Packers WR Donald Driver claims Driver's father, Marvin Driver Jr., was beaten by police in Houston, causing him to be hospitalized. The family issued a statement saying Driver was stopped for outstanding traffic warrants and was to be taken to jail, but was beaten before getting there. He can communicate through notes and has described "the torture he went through…," according to the family. Houston police issued a statement saying after the arrest, Marvin Driver Jr. was placed in the back of a patrol unit, and when he got to jail he was unresponsive and paramedics were called.

"When he gets his opportunities, the kid makes the most of it. That's how it has to be. When he's thrown into the mix, you just pick up and go. Yesterday, he did a fantastic job again, as far as breaking tackles, showing burst, showing good strength," running backs coach Edgar Bennett said.

Hawk played very well in his first start at middle linebacker in Week 11, and they could keep him in the middle for a while. "It's only one game. I hate to speculate. We'll take it a game at a time, but he looked awfully good in there. He looked extremely comfortable. He did play to some of his strengths that we liked with him when we evaluated him coming out of college, so if he continues to improve on that, we'll revisit that question maybe at the end of the year," Moss said. Hawk led the team with seven tackles in the game.

"I met with [team physician Pat McKenzie] [Monday], and this is the best Aaron's felt coming out of the game. I don't think he was hit in the football game, so that definitely helps," McCarthy said.
