Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford is approaching film study in a more traditional fashion this year. Stafford believes defensive looks will be more standard with former WR Calvin Johnson now retired. "Some things are going to look differently to us because of the fact that there was always the Calvin factor," head coach Jim Caldwell said, "just in terms of what kind of coverage he was going to get."
Fantasy Tip: Golden Tate takes over as the Lions' top wide receiver now, but he won't attract nearly as much attention as Johnson. Tate should be viewed as a WR2 with extra value in PPR leagues.

Detroit Lions DT Haloti Ngata said he is finally settling in with the Lions. "This is totally different," Ngata said Thursday, May 26. "I'm here, family's here so I don't really have to worry about trying to find a house or where we're going to stay, traveling back and forth. I've been here all off-season and it's just been great."

Detroit Lions SS Rafael Bush appears to be the leading candidate for the starting safety job next to FS Glover Quin, but he will have to compete with S Isaiah Johnson, S Tavon Wilson and SS Miles Killebrew for the job.

Detroit Lions WR T.J. Jones was "one of the obvious stars" in a recent organized team activity on Thursday, May 26, and has earned praised from head coach Jim Caldwell and QB Matthew Stafford for his offseason work.
Fantasy Tip: Even though Marvin Jones will absorb a good chunk of the 150 targets left behind by Calvin Johnson, there is going to be room for a player like T.J. Jones to make some noise for Detroit post-Megatron. The Lions also added Jeremy Kerley as a free agent, but he is primarily a slot receiver - a spot Golden Tate usually occupies in three-wide sets. As such, T.J. Jones is a name owners in all leagues should keep on their watch lists this season.

Fantasy Tip: Ebron hasn't lived up to expectations, but he is poised for a bigger role in the offense in the wake of Calvin Johnson's retirement. He has the physical tools to be a major weapon in the passing game, and he is one tight end that should be available in the later rounds who could put up starting-caliber numbers.

Fantasy Tip: Wright would have been playing behind Eric Ebron and Brandon Pettigrew anyway. Ebron is worth a look as a low-end TE1 to high-end WR2 as he could see a good share of Calvin Johnson's leftover targets.

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (shoulder) had surgery to fix a torn labrum in his shoulder in January and could miss the rest of the offseason, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Abdullah led the team in rushing last year with 597 yards. He's said to be ahead of schedule in his rehab, but the Lions are being cautious with him until training camp. Abdullah is expected to be the starting running back in 2016.
Fantasy Tip: Unless he has any setbacks, Abdullah should be good to go for training camp. Theo Riddick, Stevan Ridley, Zach Zenner and even rookie Dwayne Washington could split repetitions in the backfield with Abdullah this year, though, making him more of an RB3 with upside. Keep tabs on his recovery throughout the offseason.
