Lions | Joique Bell aiming for 1,200 yards

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 08:28:20 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell is aiming to become the franchise's second running back to rush for 1,000 yards since 2004. "I'm going to rush for over 1,200 yards," Bell said. "That's the minimum. If I do less than that, I'll be surprised. I'll be disappointed. Anything more than that, I wouldn't be surprised at all."

Fantasy Tip: Bell is the clear leader in an expected timeshare with Theo Riddick. Head coach Jim Caldwell said he wants to run the ball more than they did last season. Bell is a high-to-mid RB2, while Riddick profiles as an RB3 in PPR formats.

Lions | Matthew Stafford to hold workouts

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 10:13:35 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford will work out with WR Calvin Johnson and some of the other offensive players in Atlanta before the start of training camp. Stafford said the workouts would help the development of the offense.

Fantasy Tip: Stafford should have plenty of weapons to work with this season and should improve on his 2014 stats when he threw for 4,257 yards and 20 touchdowns. Stafford likely will be a solid No. 1 fantasy quarterback in most leagues this season.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah just wants to contribute

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 06:06:47 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah is just hoping to contribute to the team during his rookie season in 2015. "Offensively, I feel like I can go in there and I can help out the team, but if that's not my calling for this year, definitely special teams. If that's not my calling this year, I'm going to be the best scout player in the country," said Abdullah.

Fantasy Tip: Abdullah is considered the favorite to return kicks and punts for the Lions this season, and he'll join Joique Bell and Theo Riddick in the backfield. As it stands prior to training camp, Abdullah has higher value in dynasty leagues than in re-draft leagues, but he could still be worth a late-round pick.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah ready for big role

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 18:39:20 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah said he could be a three-down back if needed. "That's what I've done my whole life," Abdullah said. "I haven't done anything else, so I don't see why I wouldn't be confident in my game. I know my teammates trust me in such a short time to do so. I trust myself."

Fantasy Tip: Although Joique Bell is expected to be the starter, Abdullah should see a decent amount of touches as the backup. He has more long-term upside than Bell, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see his role increase throughout the year. Grab him as RB4, especially if you invest in Bell in the earlier rounds.

Lions | Matthew Stafford showing better accuracy

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 11:41:29 -0700

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford has shown improved accuracy during offseason workouts, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. "He's improved," Caldwell said. "He has a better feel for the system. You can see our timing's better, receivers have a better sense of the routes that they're running. All around I think we've made some improvement."

Fantasy Tip: Stafford posted solid numbers last season with 4,257 passing yards and 22 touchdowns in 16 games. Stafford has plenty of weapons to work with on offense and should be a No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues this season.

Lions | Desmond Martin relishes Joique Bell comps

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 16:23:19 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Desmond Martin considers the comparisons to RB Joique Bell he's been getting as a compliment. "He paved the way for me to come from Wayne State," Martin said during minicamp this week. "He's the first one to make it, and for me to see him to do it and see him in his rookie year through now, the whole transition from being cut and finally making it on his hometown team, maybe I can follow him a little bit." Head coach Jim Caldwell said he likes what he's seen from Martin, but he cautioned training camp doesn't begin until August.

Lions | Calvin Johnson has lots left in tank

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 10:15:47 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson said he still has big years ahead of him despite now being 30 years old. Johnson said he's feeling well after having a full offseason to heal after dealing with a high-ankle sprain last season. Johnson added that the offense is 100% better this year than it was last year at this time.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson still managed to surpass 1,000 yards last year despite missing three games. He also scored eight times. He hasn't played a full season since 2012, so the health is a concern. He's still dominant when he's on the field, however, and is a top-five fantasy wide receiver heading into 2015.

Lions | Cornelius Lucas could start at right tackle

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 11:18:04 -0700

Detroit Lions OT Cornelius Lucas has been receiving first-team repetitions at right tackle this offseason. Lucas said he's become more comfortable on the right side of the offensive line after playing left and right tackle last season. Lucas could be the starting right tackle if OT LaAdrian Waddle (knee) does not recover in time from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Lions | Big year expected from Calvin Johnson

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 11:16:00 -0700

Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson should be very productive in his second year under offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, according to WR Lance Moore. "It's going to be pretty crazy, a second year in this offense," Moore said. "I'm trying to help him with a few little things route-wise that I think can help him a whole lot and make his job a lot easier out there."

Fantasy Tip: Johnson did see a drop in his receiving yards this past season, but he was only able to play in 13 regular season games. Johnson is one of the top fantasy wide receivers when he is healthy and likely will be one of the first receivers taken in drafts this season.
