Fantasy Tip: Detroit may try to upgrade the running game in the offseason, but if Abdullah breaks camp as the top back, he has RB2 potential.

The Detroit Lions may decide to move on from backup QB Dan Orlovsky, who is scheduled to become a free agent next month. Matthew Stafford and Jake Rudock are the only other quarterbacks on the team's roster, so another NFL veteran or college prospect is likely to be brought in if Orlovsky does not return.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries have derailed Abdullah's career thus far, but he has shown some promise in his limited playing time. If Detroit doesn't spend a high pick on a back, Abdullah could reach RB2 status in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: If Boldin does decide to return, it will likely be with a team that plans to utilize him. He showed last year he can still provide useful depth as a WR4.

Lions RB Zach Zenner finished with 334 yards on 88 carries for the year and a team-high four rushing touchdowns, leading the team in rushing the last three weeks of the season. Even though Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick are expected to be completely healthy by the start of 2017, WR Anquan Boldin said in a recent interview Zenner could handle a growing role. "I think he's a guy that definitely will take the next step next year. … Whenever you have a young guy like that who is able to play every down, that's big. He's a guy that can run the ball effectively, catch the ball out of the backfield, he can pick up blitzes," Boldin said.
Fantasy Tip: Abdullah should remain the odds-on favorite to open camp as the starter. However, Zenner flashed enough ability as a runner and receiver down the stretch to be used to be used in tandem with him if Detroit chooses to do so. Riddick should return to his usual role of "space back". Abdullah and Riddick should be considered low-end RB2 options next season, while Zenner can be considered a valuable handcuff.

Detroit Lions S Miles Killebrew was able to carve out a role as a rookie in 2016, showing enough physicality to line up inside the box and enough speed to cover tight ends. As a result, FS Glover Quin suggested in a recent interview that Killebrew was the player on the Lions' defense most likely to break out in 2017.

Fantasy Tip: Boldin posted 584 yards and eight touchdowns this season and probably would receive interest from multiple teams if he decides to play in 2017. Owners should monitor the situation because Boldin could be a No. 4 or No. 5 fantasy receivers depending on his role.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford (finger) had a chance to play in the Pro Bowl Sunday, Jan. 29, but chose to rest his injured middle finger instead. He was the second alternate at quarterback on the NFC team.
Fantasy Tip: Stafford dislocated his middle finger in mid-December, and while he downplayed the injury, it was obvious that he was being affected by it, as evident in the fact that he threw just two touchdown passes afterwards in the season's final three games. Luckily, this shouldn't be something that will affect the former No. 1 overall draft pick going into training camp, and Stafford could provide solid value as a sneaky QB1 target later on in drafts as a result.
