Detroit Lions LB DeAndre Levy (hip) is expected to have a significant role on defense even though he was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list at the start of training camp, according to head coach Jim Caldwell.

Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford said he expects to lean on the running game a little more in 2016 with WR Calvin Johnson now retired. "I think it'll make us different," he said Thursday, July 28. "It's on us to make it more dangerous. We got to go out there and make the plays."
Fantasy Tip: It's tough to gauge how Stafford will perform without Johnson leading the passing attack, but he should still be viewed as a high-end QB2.

Fantasy Tip: Tate is expected to be the team's No. 1 receiver following the retirement of Calvin Johnson and he has actually led the Lions in receptions over the past two seasons. However, Detroit may want to avoid using him on special teams because he is such a valuable part of their offense. WRs T.J. Jones, Jeremy Kerley and Andre Roberts also have plenty of experience returning punts and could compete for the role during the preseason.

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (shoulder) was wearing a no-contact jersey during practice Friday, July 29. Abdullah said he is taking things day-to-day but is confident that he will be where he needs to be at the start of the regular season.
Fantasy Tip: Abdullah probably will be limited for several practices because the team wants him to be healthy for Week 1. He probably will be part of a committee at running back but is the favorite to start. Owners in most leagues should consider him a No. 3 running back at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Jones was in the running to be the slot receiver before Anquan Boldin signed with Detroit. Jones is now more of a wait-and-see fantasy option than late-round flier, but he's still a receiver to keep tabs on leading into the season.

Fantasy Tip: Boldin has limited fantasy upside, but he's a potential target at the end of drafts with more value in PPR settings. His fantasy floor could also come in handy during bye weeks. Just remember, though, this is his 14th season in the league and a long way past his prime.

Fantasy Tip: Ebron is poised to take a big leap forward in his third season, and while the recent acquisition of WR Anquan Boldin could cut into a few of his targets, Ebron is still in line for a breakout campaign. He's a great target toward the end of drafts as a starting tight end, and there's upside for him to finish the year having provided a high-end return at the position.

Fantasy Tip: Boldin should have a solid role in the passing game this season and can be a late-round option in most fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Abdullah probably will be the starting running back for the Lions in 2016, but he will be sharing touches with several other running backs during the season. He should be considered a No. 3 running back at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Boldin should have a decent role in the passing game for the Lions this season but will not be the focal point like he has been in the past. Owners in most leagues should consider Boldin as a late-round option in their drafts.
