Lions | T.J. Jones on the verge of a breakout?

Sat, 28 May 2016 12:38:29 -0700

Detroit Lions WR T.J. Jones was "one of the obvious stars" in a recent organized team activity on Thursday, May 26, and has earned praised from head coach Jim Caldwell and QB Matthew Stafford for his offseason work.

Fantasy Tip: Even though Marvin Jones will absorb a good chunk of the 150 targets left behind by Calvin Johnson, there is going to be room for a player like T.J. Jones to make some noise for Detroit post-Megatron. The Lions also added Jeremy Kerley as a free agent, but he is primarily a slot receiver - a spot Golden Tate usually occupies in three-wide sets. As such, T.J. Jones is a name owners in all leagues should keep on their watch lists this season.

Lions | Eric Ebron lost 10 pounds

Thu, 26 May 2016 18:13:34 -0700

Detroit Lions TE Eric Ebron said he lost 10 pounds this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Ebron hasn't lived up to expectations, but he is poised for a bigger role in the offense in the wake of Calvin Johnson's retirement. He has the physical tools to be a major weapon in the passing game, and he is one tight end that should be available in the later rounds who could put up starting-caliber numbers.

Lions | Tim Wright waived

Thu, 26 May 2016 14:11:09 -0700

Detroit Lions TE Tim Wright (undisclosed) was waived/injured Thursday, May 26.

Fantasy Tip: Wright would have been playing behind Eric Ebron and Brandon Pettigrew anyway. Ebron is worth a look as a low-end TE1 to high-end WR2 as he could see a good share of Calvin Johnson's leftover targets.

Lions | Ameer Abdullah had offseason surgery

Thu, 26 May 2016 09:29:13 -0700

Detroit Lions RB Ameer Abdullah (shoulder) had surgery to fix a torn labrum in his shoulder in January and could miss the rest of the offseason, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Abdullah led the team in rushing last year with 597 yards. He's said to be ahead of schedule in his rehab, but the Lions are being cautious with him until training camp. Abdullah is expected to be the starting running back in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Unless he has any setbacks, Abdullah should be good to go for training camp. Theo Riddick, Stevan Ridley, Zach Zenner and even rookie Dwayne Washington could split repetitions in the backfield with Abdullah this year, though, making him more of an RB3 with upside. Keep tabs on his recovery throughout the offseason.

Lions | Brandon Pettigrew plans to be ready

Tue, 10 May 2016 20:48:07 -0700

Detroit Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew (knee) said Tuesday, May 10, that he plans to be ready for the start of training camp. He is making his way back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee suffered back in December.

Fantasy Tip: Pettigrew would help with pass blocking, giving Matthew Stafford more protection with Eric Ebron as the pass-catching tight end. Pettigrew's return might be more important to the fantasy appeal of Stafford and the running backs more so than his own fantasy appeal.
