Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (knee, Achilles') has ramped up his return-to-play workouts in recent weeks and said he is "getting close." Head coach Jim Caldwell said Bell looks in good shape and hinted the running back will be ready for Week 1.
Fantasy Tip: Bell appears on track to be ready for Week 1, but whether he will be utilized without restrictions is unknown. While he is the likely starter and elder statesmen in a projected committee with Ameer Abdullah and Theo Reddick, there is a chance Bell is somewhat eased back into the mix due to his limitations in camp and lengthy rehab during the offseason. Bell is a fringe No. 2 running back in standard leagues, and Abdullah is a worthy RB3 with upside in PPR formats. Reddick is nothing more than a late-round flier in deep leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Tate has scored twice this preseason, solidifying himself as a deep threat again this year. He is coming off a career year, but that was partly because Calvin Johnson missed some time. Tate should still be taken as a WR2.

Fantasy Tip: Look for Stafford to flirt with a top-five fantasy season among his pass-tossing peers in 2015, as he enters the second year of offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi's offense with multiple weapons at his disposal. It is encouraging to see him posting tidy stat lines in the preseason, too. Expect Stafford to present a huge value on draft day, and look for him in the middle rounds.

Fantasy Tip: Bell is still not ready to play in a game, so owners should continue to monitor his progress to see if he will be ready for the regular season. Bell probably will receive a majority of the carries but will split playing time with Ameer Abdullah and Theo Riddick. Bell could be a middle-round option in most fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson does not need a lot of preseason work to be ready for the start of the regular season, so the team is being safe with him. Johnson has dealt with injuries over the past few seasons but has posted at least 1,000 yards in each of his last five seasons. Johnson should be an early-round pick in most drafts this season.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Jim Caldwell recently said he expects to come back as a bellcow running back, so we may have to wait until the regular starts to see how much Bell and Ameer Abdullah are used. If Bell stays healthy, he has RB2 upside. Abdullah is a speculative RB3 with RB2 potential in PPR leagues.

Detroit Lions RB Joique Bell (knee, Achilles') is expected to return this season as a bellcow running back, according to head coach Jim Caldwell. Bell has been nursing injuries all offseason, but Caldwell still envisions him producing similarly to how he did last year.
Fantasy Tip: Bell has rushed for 15 combined touchdowns the last two seasons. Ameer Abdullah, and even Theo Riddick, will cut into his playing time this year, but he still has RB2 potential if he can get healthy and stay healthy.

Detroit Lions WR T.J. Jones will have to overtake WR Jeremy Ross for the No. 5 wide receiver job if he wants to take a roster spot. Jones has caught three passes for 27 yards in two preseason game and also has returned four punts for 39 yards.

Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles has made plays during the preseason games, but he will have to overtake WR Jeremy Ross for a roster spot. Broyles has lost some explosiveness because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament and an Achilles' tendon injury in his career.

Detroit Lions RB Zach Zenner said he is willing to play on special teams in order to make the final roster. "I didn't expect to come in, as an undrafted guy, and start getting the ball 30 times a game," Zenner said. "That's just not how the NFL works. I expected that. I was prepared to make an impact on special teams and that's what I've been preparing to do." Zenner is competing with RB George Winn for a roster spot.
Fantasy Tip: Zenner has performed well during training camp, but he will have to work on special teams since he will not see regular playing time on offense. Zenner probably should be avoided during fantasy drafts, but he could be a waiver wire option if he receives a bigger role.
