Broncos | Denver has plans for Osweiler to start

Sun, 14 Feb 2016 12:22:06 -0800

There are plans for Denver Broncos QB Brock Osweiler to be the starting quarterback in 2016, and the Broncos do want to sign Osweiler to a multiyear contract extension. The sooner QB Peyton Manning notifies Denver of his decision to retire or not the sooner Denver can negotiate with Osweiler.

Fantasy Tip: A lot of this will unfold over the next month or so. Even if Osweiler does start, he should not be viewed as a starting fantasy quarterback right away.

Broncos | Brock Osweiler may not rush into talks

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 15:54:08 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent QB Brock Osweiler's representatives likely will not have serious contract talks with the Broncos until more is known about QB Peyton Manning's future with the team.

Fantasy Tip: Osweiler's future with the team probably will be tied to Manning's decision because Osweiler may want to look for a starting job this offseason. Osweiler likely would receive interest from several teams if he hits the free-agent market, but it is believed the Broncos are still his most likely destination. Osweiler should some solid play this season and probably would be a solid No. 2 quarterback in most leagues.

Broncos | Denver a long shot for Matt Forte

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 11:50:15 -0800

Chicago Bears impending free-agent RB Matt Forte fits the scheme for the Denver Broncos, but they're unlikely to be able to offer him as big of an offer that he could receive elsewhere.

Fantasy Tip: Forte will be a high-end RB2 and could be even higher if he lands in a spot to take the bulk of the workload.

Broncos | Brandon Marshall wants to get paid

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 10:04:30 -0800

Denver Broncos impending restricted free-agent LB Brandon M. Marshall said he wants to get paid in free agency but would also love to remain with the Broncos. He's likely to be involved in the tagging process somehow, either with an original-round, second-round or first-round tender. The Broncos are expected to have a little more than $7 million in salary cap space this year.

Broncos | Brock Osweiler hoping to stay

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 09:55:39 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent QB Brock Osweiler is hoping that he can remain with Denver if QB Peyton Manning decides to retire in the offseason. "Every single guy on this team embraced me, and that is something I think they all know how thankful I am for that, but this is the best team in the world and we have a very special group in our locker room," Osweiler said. If LB Von Miller receives the franchise tag, signing Osweiler to a new deal may be necessary.

Fantasy Tip: Manning is expected to hang 'em up. But with Denver having so many other impending free agents to deal with, Osweiler may be a tricky case. He had his ups and downs during his seven-game starting streak but is a perfect fit for Gary Kubiak's offense if he is retained. Osweiler can perform as a low-end QB1 at times, but he's better off as your backup fantasy QB if he stays in Denver.

Broncos | Tag status not known for Von Miller

Thu, 11 Feb 2016 13:14:22 -0800

Denver Broncos LB Von Miller is expected to receive the franchise tag before negotiating a long-term deal with the Broncos. Denver must then choose either the exclusive franchise tag or non-exclusive franchise tag. An exclusive tag keeps a player's representatives from negotiating with any other team. It would also guarantee a one-year contract for the average of the top five salaries at the linebacker position, or 120% of Miller's previous year's salary, whichever is higher. The non-exclusive franchise tag would guarantee Miller the average of the top five players at this position, but it uses a five-year data collection to get that number. The non-exclusive tag is most commonly used, and the franchise player salary for linebacker in 2016 is expected to be over $14 million.

Broncos | C.J. Anderson ready to be bell-cow RB?

Thu, 11 Feb 2016 12:23:55 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent RB C.J. Anderson thinks he can be a bell-cow running back after rushing 23 times and catching four passes for 100 total yards from scrimmage in the Super Bowl.

"You know, we chose to go the two-back route and we chose to split time with me and Ronnie (Hillman) and just try to get a change of pace. You know, keep defenses off balance. But I mean if they want me to touch the ball 25 times, 27 times, 28 times, either way whether it's all carries or carries and catches I believe I can handle it always, whether it's being a third-down back catching the ball out of the backfield or picking up the blitz and also being first- and second-down just every-down back," Anderson said.

Fantasy Tip: Both Anderson and Hillman are due for free agency this spring, and Anderson is the better bet to remain in Denver. His breakout came in 2014 when he ran 179 times for 849 yards and eight scores, and he could return to similar numbers if he's the go-to running back in 2016.

Broncos | Malik Jackson wants to stay

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 14:01:33 -0800

Denver Broncos impending free-agent DE Malik Jackson said he would like to stay with the Broncos, but admitted that the business side of free agency could keep that from happening. Jackson also said he'd be happy to receive the franchise tag, but that could be given to LB Von Miller if Miller and the Broncos are unable to reach a long-term deal soon.
