Broncos | Jeff Heuerman due for breakout season?

Wed, 26 Jul 2017 13:37:44 -0700

Denver Broncos TE Jeff Heuerman is entering his third season with the Broncos, although he sat out 2015 with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. General manager John Elway believes 2017 is the year Heuerman needs to break out. "This would be the year," Elway said, "We're waiting for Jeff to make the big step."

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos are pretty thin at tight end, but it's hard to be excited about Heuerman given his injury history and lack of production. He can be avoided unless Virgil Green or A.J. Derby is injured.

Broncos | Trevor Siemian to open with starters

Wed, 26 Jul 2017 11:06:52 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Trevor Siemian will receive the first snaps with the first-team offense during practice Thursday, July 27, but head coach Vance Joseph said that Siemian and QB Paxton Lynch will share snaps with the starters during the early part of training camp. Joseph said he would like to decide on a starting quarterback before the third preseason game but that is not a deadline for the decision.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation because the decision on the starting quarterback is likely a few weeks away. Both Siemian and Lynch received playing time in 2016, but Siemian appears to have the edge at this point. The winner of the competition will have a solid receiving corps to work with but should only be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback.

Broncos | Jamaal Charles cleared for full participation

Wed, 26 Jul 2017 10:53:34 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Jamaal Charles will be eased in slowly, but he has been cleared to participate fully in training camp, according to the Denver Post's Nicki Jhabvala.

Fantasy Tip: Charles is slated for situational work if his knees hold up, but there is very little that is for certain in Denver's backfield at the moment. C.J. Anderson figures to start, but Devantae Booker and Charles will mix in and could take over at any time during the course of the game if one of them gets "hot." For now, Charles should be drafted late as a RB5 with some upside.

Broncos | Devontae Booker more prepared in 2017

Wed, 19 Jul 2017 09:03:36 -0700

Denver Broncos RB Devontae Booker had at least 18 carries in four of the first five games following C.J. Anderson's season-ending knee injury in late October. In those four games, he averaged 2.8, 3.2, 3.3 and 1.9 yards per carry. "I think everybody's fatigued (late in the season). As a pro, you have to push through it. That's part of it ... But I feel more ready this time," Booker said.

Fantasy Tip: To be fair, Booker was less than a year removed from two knee surgeries and head coach Gary Kubiak's outside-zone running system may have not been the best fit for him. New offensive coordinator Mike McCoy intends to include more power-based concepts in his offense, the offensive line should be improved and Booker has pronounced himself fully healthy, so he should perform better in 2017. Consider him a RB5 with fairly significant upside on draft day.

Broncos | Denver getting closer to deal with John Elway

Sun, 16 Jul 2017 06:20:52 -0700

The Denver Broncos and executive vice president/general manager John Elway are continuing to negotiate a long-term agreement that could be privately finalized this week and announced shortly before training camp opens, according to Woody Paige of the Colorado Springs Gazette. The deal could pay Elway $30 million to $35 million over the course of five years, which would make him the NFL's highest-paid executive. In addition, Elway could receive the title of chief operating officer.

Broncos | Emmanuel Sanders has QB timetable

Wed, 12 Jul 2017 17:40:33 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Emmanuel Sanders said he would like to know the team's starting quarterback now if he was up to him but understands that the coaching staff will make the decision when they are ready. Sanders said it would be easier to build chemistry with the starting quarterback if he were able to practice with him all of the time.

Fantasy Tip: Sanders should be productive no matter the quarterback because he has posted at least 1,000 yards in each of the last three seasons. He should be a solid No. 3 fantasy receiver in 2017 as long as he stays healthy.
