Clarence E. Hill Jr., of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports former Dallas Cowboys WR Terrell Owens, currently with the Buffalo Bills, said he became a scapegoat for Cowboys QB Tony Romo's lack of leadership. Owens said, "He was the quarterback of the team. I think everybody realized that. It was upon him to adopt that leadership role and carry that out. Obviously, they saw that didn't happen. So, for whatever reason, I'll be the scapegoat. I'm not here. Now, it's his team. I wish him well." Owens also said he has not talked to owner Jerry Jones since he was released from the Cowboys in March.

Roy never lifted before," said an acquaintance of Williams. Strength and conditioning coach Joe Juraszek said earlier in June that Williams has been hard at work this offseason to slim down and get himself in better shape for the year.

Sports, reports Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said the reason the team released WR Terrell Owens was because as long as he was on the team, QB Tony Romo would not be an influential leader. "A lot of our players thought the world of Terrell – they still do. They loved the way he prepared and how hard he played, and everybody respected his skills and what he'd done in the league. And with him here, I think he was always going to carry that kind of weight," Jones said.

"Now is the time to get in the best shape of my life, our lives, going into training camp, because you've got pads on. You want to eat a little bit because you know you're going to lose some weight during the season. It's all about your endurance, because once the season comes, it's not a sprint, it's a marathon," James said.

Mac Engel, of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo denied Wednesday, June 17, any notion that he had been told to get into better shape in a meeting with offensive coordinator Jason Garrett earlier in the week. Romo said, "If there's anything those guys tell me, it's to throttle back sometimes just because I do a lot of running playing soccer and basketball and stuff to stay in shape, plus the stuff we do." He added that no such meeting occurred.

Jennifer Floyd Engel, of Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett reportedly told QB Tony Romo this offseason to be in better shape so that he could sustain his production for an entire season. Cowboys coaches believe Romo has a penchant for showing up for training camp in just good enough shape to allow him to get out to a good start in the first half. Romo, however, has not been able to outrun the same players in the second half of seasons, in addition to committing more turnovers.

"Oh, we're close. There's still little things, still routes," Romo said. "It's not just about running a route on air. It's about different coverages you're going to see and how you're going to come out of your break. It's our first full season together."

"I think that was one of the two or three things actually I kind of set forth this off-season," Romo said. "One was to be the same in September as you are in December as an individual and as a team." Romo has also tweaked his footwork, which he believes will speed up his delivery.

Susan Schrock, of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, reports the Dallas Cowboys are facing a possible fine or suspension of their liquor sales permit after the venue's general manager was arrested Sunday, June 7, on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Arlington, Texas, police arrested Jack Hill after his vehicle was involved in a minor collision right outside the team's new stadium. No one was injured in the collision, but Hill failed a field sobriety test and was arrested, according to police. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is investigating whether Hill was overserved liquor at the football stadium. If so, the team could face a fine or suspension of their liquor permit.


Cowboys | Team knew similar facility from same company collapsed

ESPN.com reports the Dallas Cowboys knew when they hired Summit Structures LLC to build their practice facility that a similar fabric structure built by the company for the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority had collapsed in a storm, according to a port official. The port authority's chief counsel, Greg Iannarelli, said he was contacted by Cowboys official Bruce Mays not long after a warehouse built by the company for the port collapsed in February 2003. Iannarelli said the team was considering using Summit Structure LLC and were concerned. The Summit engineer listed as responsible for the design of the Cowboys facility was also in charge of overseeing the warehouse in Philadelphia, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Phillips said, "It doesn't matter what group you have as long as you don't make mistakes. I think we're progressing well there."
