Cowboys | Byron Jones could play safety

Sat, 13 Feb 2016 11:38:52 -0800

Dallas Cowboys CB Byron Jones is expected to play free safety next season. The Cowboys believe safety is Jones' best position; he was forced to play at cornerback last season because of teammates' injuries, primarily that of CB Orlando Scandrick.

Cowboys | Dallas to draft running back?

Sat, 13 Feb 2016 11:12:33 -0800

Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott has already said he'd like to play for the Dallas Cowboys, and it would be very surprising if the Cowboys didn't draft a running back in the first three rounds, according to Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News. Machota said Louisiana Tech RB Kenneth Dixon might be an option in the second round as Dixon was on head coach Jason Garrett's Senior Bowl squad.

Fantasy Tip: Darren McFadden is coming off a pleasantly surprising season for the Cowboys. He was one of just seven running backs to gain 1,000 rushing yards last year and will probably start if healthy. The Cowboys could use some depth at the position, though, especially if Lance Dunbar leaves and considering McFadden's injury history.

Cowboys | Jerry Jones loves Robert Griffin III

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 18:09:30 -0800

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III has been praised by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones multiple times in recent years, and Cowboys beat writer Brandon George believes Dallas could be a potential landing spot for Griffin if he is released by the Redskins.

Fantasy Tip: If Griffin ends up in Dallas, he would a Tony Romo injury away from becoming an intriguing waiver wire claim.

Cowboys | Matt Forte may be too old for Dallas

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 12:09:34 -0800

Chicago Bears impending free-agent RB Matt Forte could receive interest from the Dallas Cowboys if the price is right, but they may want to look for a younger option at the position since Forte is 30 years old.

Fantasy Tip: Forte probably will receive interest from other teams but may have to play behind Darren McFadden if he signs with the Cowboys. He probably would be used more as a receiver if he joins Dallas and would be a middle-round option in most leagues.

Cowboys | Tony Romo willing to help

Tue, 09 Feb 2016 13:35:39 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo said he learned a lot when he was a backup quarterback and he is willing to help another quarterback learn if the Cowboys sign a free-agent quarterback or take a quarterback in the draft.

Fantasy Tip: There will always be a sense of competition at the professional level, but Romo already knows he'll start as long as he's healthy enough to do so. The backup quarterback may carry a little more importance for the Cowboys than with other teams considering Romo's injury history. At full health, though, Romo is a QB1.

Cowboys | Jason Witten planning to stick around?

Sun, 07 Feb 2016 18:56:59 -0800

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten said he is taking his career one year at a time, but he added that he would play another seven years if he remains healthy and can play at a high level.

Fantasy Tip: Witten managed to catch 77 passes for 713 yards in 2015 despite playing just four games with Tony Romo. He may not be an elite fantasy option at his position anymore, but he is still a TE1, especially in PPR formats.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott likes Dallas

Fri, 05 Feb 2016 14:57:28 -0800

Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott said he'd love to play for the Dallas Cowboys. "The Dallas Cowboys (are my pick). I want to go play behind that great offensive line they have down in Dallas," Elliott said. He ran for more than 1,800 yards in each of his last two seasons in college, and Elliott is pegged to be the top prospect available at his position in the draft this year.

Fantasy Tip: As one of the top options at his position this year, Elliott could easily be a first-round selection. If he went to Dallas and played behind that offensive line, he could be in for a very productive rookie campaign, even if he shares work with Darren McFadden. Elliott would be worth a late-round grab in fantasy leagues with the Cowboys.

Cowboys | Dez Bryant wants DeMarco Murray back

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 15:51:52 -0800

Philadelphia Eagles RB DeMarco Murray may not return to the Philadelphia Eagles next season, and Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant has already started recruiting Murray back to Dallas. The Cowboys are one of the teams included among those who might be interested in signing Murray.

Fantasy Tip: There's still a lot to play out for Murray and the Eagles before next season. The Cowboys, Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks are three teams that were interested in him last year. A reunion with Dallas might make sense, but Darren McFadden is coming off a surprisingly productive season. Don't look too much into Murray's fantasy value until there's a clearer picture of his status in Philadelphia.

Cowboys | Tony Romo to have another scan

Thu, 04 Feb 2016 14:08:52 -0800

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (clavicle) will undergo another CT scan at the end of February or in early March, at which point the best way to proceed will be reassessed. There will be two options for Romo. A plate could be attached over the collarbone to limit the potential for further injury. If the CT scan shows good enough bone growth, though, then a portion of the clavicle could be shaved off or removed. The second method would place less long-term stress on the collarbone. Romo is still expected to undergo surgery at a later time.

Fantasy Tip: Romo should still be ready to play next season, but his slew of injuries may be taking a toll on his body and could make him even more fragile going forward. At full health, Romo is a QB1 candidate, but making it through a full season could be a challenge.

Cowboys | Tony Romo pauses surgery four weeks

Wed, 03 Feb 2016 06:10:16 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (clavicle) will be re-evaluated in four weeks before making a final decision on surgery to his left collarbone, according to sources. Romo had a CT scan a week ago on the collarbone, which showed good bone growth.

Fantasy Tip: Romo will be among the midrange QBs in next year's drafts, but his durability is a major concern. He'll be a boom-or-bust selection.

Cowboys | No major changes for Dallas offense

Tue, 02 Feb 2016 17:20:05 -0800

Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said he doesn't anticipate any major changes coming to the Cowboys' offense next season.

Fantasy Tip: Tony Romo and Dez Bryant should be back and healthy. Running back may be somewhat of a gray cloud to some, but Darren McFadden is coming off a pleasantly surprising season, so that cloud may be a little whiter than people think. No major changes can definitely be a good thing, especially if the Cowboys' current group of players stays healthy.

Cowboys | Dallas unlikely to sign Johnny Manziel

Tue, 02 Feb 2016 13:43:07 -0800

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel is unlikely to sign with the Dallas Cowboys if he is released by the Browns, according to ESPNDallas.com's Todd Archer. Archer said the Cowboys need a reliable backup quarterback, and that it's hard to imagine Dallas signing Manziel for such a need.

Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys have been the team most heavily rumored to possibly sign Manziel if/when the Browns let him go. Manziel's off-field problems could be a big hindrance in him signing with another team. Again, as of now, he has not fantasy value.
