Cowboys | Ryan Switzer to have 'significant' role

Fri, 26 May 2017 11:19:42 -0700

Dallas Cowboys fourth-round pick WR Ryan Switzer is getting first-team reps in the slot while WR Cole Beasley is dealing hamstring soreness. However, while head coach Jason Garrett has made it clear while Switzer was drafted in part for his ability to back up Beasley, the Cowboys are working on packages for both to be on the field at the same time to take advantage of mismatches. "(Switzer) has a similar game (to Beasley), but he has his own things. We would really like those two guys to be able to complement each other and run real similar route trees. … His role is significant. … He complements Beasley and also gives us some big-time needed depth at that position," Garrett said.

Fantasy Tip: Beasley is coming off a career-high 75-catch season and figures to remain the top slot option for at least this season, but the heat will be on. Switzer is a dynamic return man and possesses more talent, so it may only be a matter of time before their roles are reversed. While Beasley is easily the better redraft option in 2017, Switzer is the better long-term use of a roster spot in dynasty.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott taking the next step

Wed, 24 May 2017 20:53:39 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has emerged as a more vocal leader entering his second season, and quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson recently said he's seen nothing from Prescott that should worry anyone about the reigning rookie of the year taking his foot off the gas. "There has been no complacency at all. Nothing is too big for that kid. He's improved strength-wise, flexibility-wise, speed-wise, quickness-wise, so he's not resting on anything that went on last year," Wilson said.

Fantasy Tip: Prescott never did look like a rookie in 2016, so we shouldn't be all that surprised he seems to be ahead of the curve entering his second year either. The Cowboys will remain a run-oriented offense, but there's really no reason to believe Prescott can't continue to perform at the fantasy QB1 level he did for the bulk of last season.

Cowboys | Cole Beasley dealing with injury

Wed, 24 May 2017 13:22:19 -0700

Dallas Cowboys WR Cole Beasley (hamstring) has not been able to participate in organized team activities this week because of a hamstring injury.

Fantasy Tip: Beasley likely will not do much during offseason workouts but should be ready for training camp at the latest. He was a big part of the passing game this past season with 75 receptions, 855 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Beasley should have a similar role in the offense in 2017 and can be a No. 4 receiver in fantasy leagues.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott expected back next week

Wed, 24 May 2017 12:42:27 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott (head) is expected to participate in organized team activities next week, according to head coach Jason Garrett.

Fantasy Tip: Elliott could be limited during practice for the next week or two but should be fine for the June minicamp. He was one of the top running backs in the NFL as a rookie and should see a similar workload in 2017. Elliott should be a No. 1 running back in all fantasy leagues.

Cowboys | Ezekiel Elliott to be held out of OTAs

Wed, 24 May 2017 09:45:50 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott (head) will not participate in OTAs after he suffered a head injury as a passenger in a minor car accident Sunday, May 21.

Fantasy Tip: ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier Elliott did not suffer any significant injuries, so this appears to be a precautionary move on the Cowboys' part. Nevertheless, Elliott cannot seem to stay out of the news, as he is still under investigation by the league for allegedly assaulting an ex-girlfriend last summer. Barring another injury or an unexpected turn in the assault case, he should be considered an elite fantasy RB1, but future off-field troubles could easily result in him dropping out of the first five picks in drafts.

Mon, 22 May 2017 14:27:54 -0700

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott remains under investigation for an incident he was allegedly part of in July, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Tip: How soon the investigation remains to be seen. Barring any punishment from the NFL or the Cowboys, Elliott remains a top-three fantasy running back and should be selected early in the first round.
