Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott will be a valuable part of the Cowboys' offense, but defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli believes he'll help the defense, too. Marinelli said the Dallas defense will play the Dallas offense more than anyone, and guys like Elliott and WR Dez Bryant will force the defense to be physical and be better prepared for opposing offenses.
Fantasy Tip: There's no denying the challenge that Elliott brings to defenses. The Cowboys have been disappointing on that front of late, and Elliott won't necessarily improve the defense immediately, but he could make a difference. As for Elliott on offense, he's a high-end RB2 candidate but could be overvalued in fantasy drafts.

Dallas Cowboys DEs Tyrone Crawford and Benson Mayowa were mentioned by defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli as players who can step up while DEs DeMarcus Lawrence and Randy Gregory serve their suspensions at the beginning of the season.

Dallas Cowboys RB Darius Jackson's best chance of receiving any possibility of playing time is if RB Lance Dunbar (knee) begins the regular season on the Physicall Unable to Perform list. Jackson will be behind RBs Ezekiel Elliott, Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris on the depth chart, too, so he may be the odd man out when Dunbar returns.

Dallas Cowboys LB Jaylon Smith (knee) is viewed as a natural middle linebacker by the Cowboys, but they believe he can also play weakside linebacker, according to head coach Jason Garrett. "We don't see that he has limitations at either of those spots. I think he'd be very natural at either one of them, and has the traits to do it," Garrett said. Smith is not expected to play in 2016 as he continues to recover from nerve damage in his knee.

Dallas Cowboys RB Alfred Morris said he does not regret signing with the Cowboys this offseason even though the team selected RB Ezekiel Elliott in the first round of the draft. Head coach Jason Garrett has not talked with Morris about his role on offense, but Morris is excited to compete for a job.
Fantasy Tip: Morris likely will be behind Elliott and Darren McFadden on the depth chart if they all make the final roster. Morris could be used as a change-of-pace back but likely would see limited touches. He could be a late-round option in some leagues but probably would only be depth for fantasy teams in 2016.

Dallas Cowboys rookie QB Dak Prescott's said his DUI charge in March is something of the past and won't happen again. "It was a mistake, but it's going to make me a better person and it already has," Prescott said. Owner Jerry Jones said Prescott's character and judgment will help him mitigate his past mistakes. "It's certainly something you should look at with the quarterback spot," Jones said, "but when you really look at it, what is impressive is that from everybody around him, the recommendations he got from everybody and the time spent with him, we don't think there's character issues here."
Fantasy Tip: Prescott appears to be the future successor to Tony Romo. He'll have plenty of time to learn, grow and stay out of trouble as long as Romo stays healthy. Don't consider Prescott a fantasy option this year.

Fantasy Tip: If it plays out right then Prescott will ideally take over for Tony Romo in a few years. He has no immediate fantasy value.
