Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) will be on the 53-man roster this weekend, but it doesn't necessarily mean he'll be on the roster for Week 1. Team officials continue to decide whether to place him on the Injured Reserve/Designated to Return list meaning the earliest he could return is Nov. 6. "We're certainly getting our hands around it," executive vice president Stephen Jones said Wednesday, Aug. 31. "We need to make that decision obviously sometime later in the weekend." Romo is set to have another MRI this weekend, nine to 10 days after his initial injury. He was originally expected to miss six to 10 weeks, but now the window is more of an eight to 10 weeks timeframe.
Fantasy Tip: One thing is certain with this injury, Romo is not someone to consider drafting in any fantasy league unless you have deep rosters or several injured spots available. Even then, it only makes sense in formats which require two starting signal callers.

The Dallas Cowboys plan to restructure CB Orlando Scandrick's contract to free up approximately $3 million in salary cap space for the 2016 season, sources said Wednesday, Sept. 1. The team will likely convert $4 million of Scandrick's $5 million base salary into a signing bonus that would free up $3 million in additional salary cap space so the team can pursue a backup quarterback.

Dallas Cowboys LB Sean Lee (knee) had $2 million of his $3 million base into bonus pay, but it did not clear any space for the 2016 season. As far as his knee is concerned, he said "I'll be ready to go for the first game."

Dallas Cowboys QB Jameill Showers will play all four quarters during the final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 1, if the team does not sign another quarterback, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones.

Fantasy Tip: Escobar, a former second-round pick, has never delivered on his draft position, and it looks as though he may be edged out for a roster spot. Odds are someone would take a look at him given his physical credentials (6-foot-6, 260 pounds), but he's of no interest for fantasy owners.

Fantasy Tip: When healthy, McFadden will likely play second fiddle to Ezekiel Elliott in 2016. He was one of only seven running backs to run for at least 1,000 yards last season, but his injury history and status as a backup are too much to make him more than a deep flier.

Denver Broncos QB Mark Sanchez is not a trade option for the Dallas Cowboys if they have to accept his current contract. The Broncos have approached the Cowboys about a possible trade involving Sanchez.
Fantasy Tip: Sanchez could be more of an option for the Cowboys if he is released by the Broncos. Sanchez will be a backup no matter where he plays this season and will not be a fantasy option unless he starts.

Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo (back) will be wearing a back brace during his recovery from the compression fracture in his vertebra. Head coach Jason Garrett is not giving a timetable for Romo's return.
Fantasy Tip: Romo is not expected to return to the lineup until at least midseason, so owners should monitor his progress over the next few weeks. Owners could consider selecting Romo in the late rounds of drafts and stashing him on their bench, but he probably will go undrafted in many leagues. Dak Prescott should be the starting quarterback for the Cowboys for the time being and can be a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.
