Updating previous reports, Dallas Cowboys LB Jaylon Smith (knee) has seen no significant change in the rejuvenation of the nerve in his knee. With it not firing, he'll play to play in a game with a brace for drop foot, and he'd likely be the first to do so. The team is likely no longer waiting for the knee to fire and are proceeding as if it won't and he'll play regardless.

Updating a previous report, the Dallas Cowboys will not be pursuing Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson when he becomes an unrestricted free agent next week, according to a team source, because they are "not a fit" for Peterson with RB Ezekiel Elliott on the roster.
Fantasy Tip: Well, that logic can't be argued, as Elliott looks like he has all the tools to be the best running back in football over the next few years, if not more, so Peterson's services wouldn't really be needed. In any event, the 31-year-old would be wise to land in another situation that would present him with a more active workload, as he can still be effective when healthy.

The Dallas Cowboys are in no rush to talk to TE Jason Witten about a contract extension as he enters the final season of his five-year, $37 million deal, according to team executive vice president Stephen Jones.
Fantasy Tip: Witten said earlier this month he wasn't anticipating an extension and it shouldn't come as a surprise since he turns 35 in May. While he hasn't stretched the seam for years and incapable of creating big plays at this point of his career, Witten gives the Cowboys a reliable option who hasn't missed a game since his rookie season in 2003. In fantasy, he's a high-end TE2 with slightly more appeal in PPR leagues.

Fantasy Tip: The Minnesota Vikings declined Peterson's 2017 option earlier Tuesday, but it is still possible - albeit unlikely - he could re-sign with the team before the start of the new league year. Jones appears fascinated by the idea pairing AP with Ezekiel Elliott, but the Cowboys have bigger fish to fry than trying to upgrading the depth at running back. Despite the reported interest on both sides, Dallas should be considered a longshot to land Peterson.

Fantasy Tip: Romo will likely be released or traded to free up cap space, and he should be able to find a starting job somewhere. Health is an obvious concern, but Romo is worth the gamble as a QB2.

Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott isn't going to suffer a sophomore slump, according to New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton, and Payton said Prescott plays with a calmness that should continue to benefit him.
Fantasy Tip: After his impressive rookie campaign, Prescott is already in the QB1 mix entering 2017.

Dallas Cowboys OT Tyron Smith and C Travis Frederick had their contracts restructured Monday, Feb. 20, to free up about $17.3 million in salary cap space. The moves place them under the proposed salary cap of $168 million for this year, according to a source. About $21 million of the $24 million Smith and Frederick were due was turned into a signing bonus in order to create the cap space. Smith and Frederick were set to make $10.00 million and $14.22 million next season, respectively.

Fantasy Tip: Romo can't be trusted as a fantasy starter, but if he lands in a quality offense, he is worth grabbing as a QB2 in 2017. If he can actually stay on the field, he can be a high-end fantasy backup or useful trade chip.
