Cleveland Browns news, rumors and injuries

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson will be used separately from RBs Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West, according to head coach Mike Pettine Friday, May 3. Browns general manager Ray Farmer compared Johnson to Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard and former Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook.
Fantasy Tip: The Browns' brass raved about Johnson's ability in both the passing and return games. Johnson will need to fight off the two sophomore running backs for playing time, but it appears the Browns will try to get him on the field whenever possible. Johnson could be worth a late-round flier, but is more likely someone to watch in the season's early going.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson isn't an every-down back, but he will likely team with Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West to give Cleveland a three-headed monster in the backfield. Fantasy owners won't love it, and Johnson should go undrafted in 2015, but he has a bright future as a 10-15 carry guy.

Oregon QB Marcus Mariota reportedly doesn't have the backing of everyone on the Cleveland Browns, according to a source. Head coach Mike Pettine said opinions are varied on the quarterback. The Browns have already reportedly offered their No. 12 and No. 19 overall picks for the Tennessee Titans' No. 2 overall pick.
Fantasy Tip: The Mariota train seems to be losing steam in Cleveland, but you never know. Wherever Mariota lands, he shouldn't be regarded as a starting fantasy quarterback right away.

Philadelphia Eagles QB Sam Bradford isn't thrilled about the possibility of being traded to the Browns and is resistant to the idea of signing a contract extension with Cleveland. Bradford wasn't thrilled when the Browns first asked about him when he was with the St. Louis Rams.
Fantasy Tip: This is all speculation leading up to the NFL Draft Thursday evening. However, if Bradford does land in Cleveland via a trade, it'll arguably be one of the better signal callers they've had under center in quite some time, regardless of Bradford's injury history. However, his fantasy value would take a hit with the move to the Browns, making him a QB2 with upside, at best.

Fantasy Tip: The quarterback situation would look somewhat more promising if Bradford was acquired. His weapons would be limited and he would still have to stay on the field, however. Bradford would be a very risky fantasy option in Cleveland, not only because of a weak supporting cast, but because of his tumultuous health history.

Updating a previous story, Cleveland Browns general manager Ray Farmer told NFL Media's Andrea Kremer Wednesday, April 29, he hasn't had any serious talks with Tennessee Titans general manager Ruston Webster about trading for the No. 2 pick in Thursday's draft.

Oregon QB Marcus Mariota is receiving a lot of interest from the Cleveland Browns, and the Browns have offered the Tennessee Titans both of their 2015 first-round draft picks for the No. 2 overall pick in order to select Mariota.
Fantasy Tip: The Browns appear to have serious interest in Mariota and would draft him if the trade is accepted. Mariota would compete for the starting quarterback job during training camp but likely would be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback.

Cleveland Browns QB Johnny Manziel's commitment is "night and day" from last year, according to Browns OT Joe Thomas, Tuesday, April 28. Manziel has been participating in the Browns' voluntary offseason workout program since it began April 20. "This year on a Saturday if you came in the building, you'd see him studying his playbook and watching film with his coach. It's pretty apparent he's realized how important football is to him, and he's realized that in the NFL you can't get away with maybe some of the things that you did in college because it's a big boys' game now," said Thomas.
Fantasy Tip: Manziel will also have to regain the trust of fantasy owners. With Josh McCown as competition for the Browns' starting job, Manziel currently holds zero fantasy value. Even if Manziel wins the starter's job, he'll only be a late-round option in two-quarterback leagues.
