Cleveland Browns DT Caleb Brantley is not guaranteed a roster spot because of the battery charge he is facing in Florida. Executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown said the team is still investigating the incident and could release Brantley.

Cleveland Browns QB DeShone Kizer will get the opportunity to compete for the team's starting quarterback job with QBs Cody Kessler, Kevin Hogan and Brock Osweiler, according to head coach Hue Jackson.
Fantasy Tip: Even if Kizer is named Cleveland's No. 1 quarterback, he should be avoided outside of keeper and dynasty fantasy formats. There is a good chance that the Browns will release Osweiler but the team is still on the lookout for a veteran QB to bridge the gap while Kizer gets accustomed to the offense.

Fantasy Tip: Kizer could be a starting option for the Browns as soon as this season, but owners should avoid him in 2017 even if he starts. Owners in keeper leagues may consider him as a late-round option because he could become a No. 1 fantasy quarterback in the future.

Fantasy Tip: Miami (Fla.) TE David Njoku is obviously the future in Cleveland, and the Browns needed less than 24 hours to decide that would be the case. The 31-year-old Barnidge should find another team in short order, while Njoku will probably split time with Seth DeValve early on until Cleveland is ready to trust him full-time. The 20-year-old Njoku is probably too raw to be worthy of redraft consideration in 2017, but he is a very intriguing late first-round option in rookie drafts.

The Cleveland Browns have "touched base" with the Cincinnati Bengals in regards to trading for QB AJ McCarron, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, who acknowledged talks do not "sound like they've gotten too far".
Fantasy Tip: The Bengals reportedly were not willing to take anything less than a first-rounder for McCarron last week, so this is a deal that probably won't get done. Browns head coach Hue Jackson obviously knows and believes in McCarron from their time together in Cincinnati, but he isn't worth trading a 2018 first-round pick for, especially when that draft is projected to have anywhere from three to five potential blue-chip quarterbacks available.

Fantasy Tip: Although the Browns drafted from Miami (Fla.) TE David Njoku last night, this news comes as a bit of a surprise and basically opens the door for the raw rookie to start right away if he shows enough in camp. The 31-year-old Barnidge was a Pro Bowler in 2015 and finished with 55 catches a season ago, so it shouldn't take long for him to find a new gig.

Fantasy Tip: Njoku should have a role in the passing game right away because the Browns do not have a great receiver corps. He probably should be considered a No. 2 tight end in fantasy drafts this upcoming season but can become a starting fantasy tight end in a few years.
