Fantasy Tip: Robert Griffin III probably is the leading candidate, but Josh McCown and Cody Kessler are still options for the job. The winner of the quarterback job will be helped with the return of Josh Gordon but should not be seen as more than a low-end No. 2 quarterback in deeper leagues.

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III won't be handed the starting job, although all signs point to him winning the gig. "No, it's still a ways away in my mind, but I feel good about where we are and I feel good about the process that we've been in for those guys," head coach Hue Jackson said. Griffin is trying to beat out veteran QB Josh McCown, as well as journeyman QB Austin Davis and rookie QB Cody Kessler.
Fantasy Tip: Griffin is 5-15 over his past 20 starts, and he has had difficulty staying healthy over his career. Even if he can win the starting job he is nothing more than a Top 25 fantasy option at his position in most formats.

Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown looked more ready in spring practices than QB Robert Griffin III, and he knows the offensive line well while having a rapport and timing down with some of the receivers. McCown posted a 93.3 quarterback rating in 2015, 14th in the NFL. However, the team isn't expected to build around a quarterback who is 37. He might be kept around as an insurance policy in case QB Cody Kessler isn't ready.
Fantasy Tip: McCown's outlook is up in the air, as RG3 is expected to start, although nothing is written in stone. Unless he is able to win the starting job, avoid him in all fantasy leagues. Even then he would only be worth a look as a No. 2 or 3 fantasy option in most leagues.

Cleveland Browns QB Austin Davis has a chance to stick around with the team if the organization elects to deal or release QB Josh McCown during training camp and the preseason. Davis was signed to a two-year contract extension through 2017, but only $600,000 is guaranteed.
Fantasy Tip: Davis isn't likely to be anything more than the team's third-string quarterback if he sticks around.

Cleveland Browns DL Armonty Bryant faces further possible league suspensions following a misdemeanor drug conviction Wednesday, July 27. He is already suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Barnidge does miss some time during training camp, he should be good to go for the regular season. Barnidge is coming off a breakout season in which he managed more than 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns. Continue to view him as a TE1.

Cleveland Browns CB Joe Haden (ankle) and TE Seth DeValve (hamstring) were placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list Tuesday, July 27. OG Conor Boffeli (knee, ankle) was placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon has plenty of time to recover and get back into the swings of things, especially considering his four-game suspension. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks with the quad injury, the safe bet will be to look at him in the WR3 range.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon is an elite fantasy receiver when he's on the field. The problem is he's played in only 19 games since 2013 and was suspended all of 2015. He did total 1,646 yards on 87 catches in '13, though, so he certainly has high-end potential. However, don't overvalue Gordon, since he hasn't played in forever and will be in a new system with a new QB. Take him for upside as a WR3.

Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell could reach 1,000 rushing yards this year, according to beat writer Mary Kay Cabot, and Cabot believes Crowell is going to receive a "bulk" of the carries this season.
Fantasy Tip: Despite the endorsement of Crowell, backfield mate Duke Johnson is still waiting to steal some carries and soak up a majority of the targets in the passing game. Throw in Cleveland's suspect offense, and Crowell is likely ticketed for RB3 territory.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson may not start at running back this season but should receive plenty of touches in 2016. Johnson likely will have more value in point-per-reception leagues since he will be involved in the passing game. Johnson should be a middle-round option in most fantasy leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Pryor has caught only two passes in his career for 64 yards but should be more involved in the offense this season. Pryor probably should not be selected in most fantasy leagues but could be a waiver wire option during the season.

Fantasy Tip: That would take us very close to the start of the season. Even then, there's no guarantee he would be able to play and contribute immediately. Gordon has WR1 talent, but with the dearth of talent at the position in fantasy, taking him as anything more than a WR3 with a WR4 that has significant upside isn't a shrewd move.
