Browns | Hue Jackson talks up running back duo

Thu, 05 May 2016 13:17:16 -0700

Cleveland Browns RBs Isaiah Crowell and Duke Johnson were recently lauded by the head coach Hue Jackson. "Those two guys are as good as I've seen in a while," Jackson said. "Their talent is extreme." As reported earlier, Jackson has pointed to Crowell, mainly, as the reason for the Browns not selecting a running back in the draft. "I really think Isaiah Crowell is a really good running back. I think he's going to have a sensational season, I really do."

Fantasy Tip: Jackson is probably a little more optimistic than the average fan. Crowell and Johnson are a capable duo, to be sure, but they left something to be desired last season. For now, consider Crowell a low-end RB3 option, while Johnson could reach low-end RB2 to high-end RB3 status.

Browns | Hue Jackson really likes Ike

Wed, 04 May 2016 22:50:17 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell has a fan in head coach Hue Jackson, and his confidence in Crowell and RB Duke Johnson is why the team did not select a running back in the 2016 NFL draft. Crowell led the team with 185 carries, 706 yards and four touchdowns in 2015. Jackson sees Crowell as a bellcow who can carry the load, and he is confident Crowell can find holes quicker this season.

Fantasy Tip: Crowell averaged 3.8 yards per carry in 2015, and if he can increase his production even slightly, he'll be a solid RB2 or flex play. Jackson is confident in Crowell and Duke Johnson, and you can expect both to have a fantasy impact in 2016.

Browns | Duke Johnson praised by HC

Wed, 04 May 2016 22:49:33 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson has been praised by new head coach Hue Jackson, who sees Johnson as an elusive runner and dynamic receiver in a mold similar to Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard. "I think he's going to have a great year as well," Jackson said Wednesday, May 4. "Duke has suddenness and quickness and he can go catch the ball with anybody. He does so many different things that gives your offense a boost."

Fantasy Tip: The Browns didn't draft a running back because of their confidence in Johnson and Isaiah Crowell. He has RB2 ability, although he should be targeted as an RB3 or flex play with upside due to the presence of Crowell and the specter of a timesharing situation.

Browns | Seth DeValve can present mismatches

Tue, 03 May 2016 08:44:21 -0700

Cleveland Browns TE Seth DeValve can present mismatches, according to executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown. DeValve, who the Browns took in the fourth round in 2016, was a wide receiver that moved all across the field in college. The team termed him an "H-back adjuster."

DeValve had two surgeries in college to correct a condition he had at birth, but it's not expected to hinder him as he prepares for rookie minicamp. Brown said the team was prepared to take him in the third round, but the fact he went to Princeton made him fall a round.

Fantasy Tip: DeValve isn't an option in fantasy for now, but he could emerge if something happened to All-Pro TE Gary Barnidge. Keep his name in the memory bank for now.

Browns | Cody Kessler will get chance to start

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 22:16:19 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler will have a legitimate shot to beat out QB Robert Griffin III for the starting job in training camp and the preseason. "It's a competition. We'll let it play out," executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown said Saturday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: It's hard to imagine Kessler beating RG3, but it is Cleveland and anything is possible. Kessler would be nothing more than a low-end QB2 fantasy option if he does somehow win the starting job.

Browns | Cleveland takes Rashard Higgins

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 12:38:39 -0700

Former Colorado State WR Rashard Higgins was selected by the Cleveland Browns with the 172nd pick in the fifth round of the NFL draft Saturday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: The Browns have added more than enough depth at the wide receiver position during the draft, but they needed to. The puzzle pieces still need to fall at wide receiver for the Browns, but Higgins will likely at least play behind Brian Hartline, Corey Coleman and Andrew Hawkins. He won't be much of a fantasy factor this year.

Browns | Teams positioning to land Connor Cook?

Sat, 30 Apr 2016 08:59:39 -0700

The Cleveland Browns have been receiving interest for the first pick in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft, and Ian Rapoport of believes teams could be trying to move up to select Michigan State QB Connor Cook.

Fantasy Tip: Cook's slide has been somewhat of a surprise, and his arm strength and experience in a pro-style offense should make him one of the more NFL-ready quarterbacks in this draft.

Browns | Cody Kessler was the right fit

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 21:04:36 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Cody Kessler was the "right fit" for the team, according to head coach Hue Jackson.

Fantasy Tip: Kessler is unlikely to see the field as a rookie, and even his long-term value is questionable. He doesn't need to be on the fantasy radar right now.

Browns | Cody Kessler nabbed by Cleveland

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 20:06:26 -0700

The Cleveland Browns selected University of Southern California QB Cody Kessler with the No. 93 overall pick in the third round of the 2016 NFL draft Friday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Kessler scoots ahead of Connor Cook and Dak Prescott as QBs off the board. The former Trojan will serve as the backup or No. 3 quarterback in training behind Robert Griffin III, at least for 2016. So don't look for much of a splash from a fantasy perspective.
