Cleveland Browns news, rumors and injuries

Fantasy Tip: Kessler exceeded the expectations of many in his first career start on Sunday. The fact that he is still the starter is good news for Terrelle Pryor and Gary Barnidge. Pryor is coming off a career game while Barnidge was easily Kessler's second favorite target. Pryor has played his way into the WR2 conversation, but don't start Kessler just yet unless it's in daily contests to spend more at other positions.

Fantasy Tip: Parkey isn't off the team yet, but he may be on thin ice. He has been inconsistent throughout his career and should not be started in any format.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson split the backfield touches 15-15 with Isaiah Crowell, and each player had decent outings. Look for that split to continue, making both low-end RB2 options in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams.

Fantasy Tip: Barnidge was drafted as a Top 10 option at his position, but Sunday's game was the first time he resembled a TE1. With a young quarterback with a smaller passing radius, Barnidge should figure in prominently in future weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Crowell has emerged as a solid RB2 over the past two games. He'll look to keep it going in Week 4 at Washington.

Cleveland Browns WR Terrelle Pryor posted eight receptions for 144 yards on 14 targets in the Week 3 game against the Miami Dolphins. He also ran four times for 21 yards and a touchdown while completing three of five pass attempts for 35 yards. He was the first Cleveland player since 1977 to have multiple receptions, rushes and passes in the same game.
Fantasy Tip: Pryor gave the team a different look under center, as he occasionally spelled rookie Cody Kessler, who was making his first NFL start. Pryor will be a very hot selection off the waiver wire this week, as he appears to be a big part of Cleveland's plans going forward.

Updating previous reports, Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown (shoulder) is expected to need two to four weeks to recover from a broken collarbone in his non-throwing shoulder. He wanted to harness the left shoulder and continue playing but the team denied his request.
Fantasy Tip: QB Cody Kessler will serve as the team's interim starter, with QB Charlie Whitehurst backing him up. Both players possess little fantasy value, although Kessler could be useful as a bench player in cavernous seasonal leagues.

Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell "looked more explosive than ever last week", according to ESPN's Pat McManamon, who went on to say he believes Crowell will remain "the main guy" with Duke Johnson serving as the change-of-pace back.
Fantasy Tip: Although Crowell ranks fifth in the league with 195 yards rushing, it's been well-documented how fluky most of those yards have been, as 40 of them came on three draw plays at the end of a blowout loss in Week 1 and 85 more came on a complete defensive bust last week. With Cody Kessler expected to lead the offense for the next two months, the entire offense is most likely doomed. Since he provides very little in the passing game, it is highly unlikely Crowell will be anything more than a middling flex in a few weeks.

Fantasy Tip: After earning a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2014, Parkey missed the bulk of the 2015 season due to a groin injury and hasn't displayed the same effectiveness since returning, so he should not be considered a strong fantasy option.

The Cleveland Browns are expected to sign free-agent PK Cody Parkey (Eagles), according to a league source. PK Patrick Murray (knee) injured his left knee during the team's walkthrough Friday, Sept. 23, and he is listed as questionable on the injury report for Week 3's game against the Miami Dolphins.
Fantasy Tip: Although Parkey made the Pro Bowl in 2014, he missed most of the 2015 season due to a groin injury and hasn't been the same player since. He should not be viewed as a great fantasy option at this point.
