Browns | Gary Barnidge may be limited

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 16:09:02 -0700

Cleveland Browns TE Gary Barnidge (hernia) could be limited for the start of training camp after undergoing hernia surgery in June. He did pass his physical, however.

Fantasy Tip: Even if Barnidge does miss some time during training camp, he should be good to go for the regular season. Barnidge is coming off a breakout season in which he managed more than 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns. Continue to view him as a TE1.

Browns | Josh Gordon to start camp on NFI list

Tue, 26 Jul 2016 13:56:21 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon (quadriceps) will begin training camp on the Non-Football Injury list. He is working out on his own and is expected to miss a couple of weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon has plenty of time to recover and get back into the swings of things, especially considering his four-game suspension. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks with the quad injury, the safe bet will be to look at him in the WR3 range.

Browns | Josh Gordon being reinstated

Mon, 25 Jul 2016 11:03:30 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon is being reinstated by the NFL conditionally, according to a source. He will be suspended for the first four games of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon is an elite fantasy receiver when he's on the field. The problem is he's played in only 19 games since 2013 and was suspended all of 2015. He did total 1,646 yards on 87 catches in '13, though, so he certainly has high-end potential. However, don't overvalue Gordon, since he hasn't played in forever and will be in a new system with a new QB. Take him for upside as a WR3.

Browns | Isaiah Crowell to dominate carries?

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 17:54:37 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Isaiah Crowell could reach 1,000 rushing yards this year, according to beat writer Mary Kay Cabot, and Cabot believes Crowell is going to receive a "bulk" of the carries this season.

Fantasy Tip: Despite the endorsement of Crowell, backfield mate Duke Johnson is still waiting to steal some carries and soak up a majority of the targets in the passing game. Throw in Cleveland's suspect offense, and Crowell is likely ticketed for RB3 territory.

Browns | Duke Johnson to line up at WR

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 07:56:30 -0700

Cleveland Browns RB Duke Johnson will line up at wide receiver at times during the season because the team likes to find different ways to throw passes to Johnson.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson may not start at running back this season but should receive plenty of touches in 2016. Johnson likely will have more value in point-per-reception leagues since he will be involved in the passing game. Johnson should be a middle-round option in most fantasy leagues.

Browns | Cleveland has plays for Terrelle Pryor

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 07:45:06 -0700

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson has drawn up plays to get the ball into WR Terrelle Pryor's hands and allow him to run in the open field.

Fantasy Tip: Pryor has caught only two passes in his career for 64 yards but should be more involved in the offense this season. Pryor probably should not be selected in most fantasy leagues but could be a waiver wire option during the season.

Browns | Josh Gordon decision not imminent

Fri, 22 Jul 2016 06:15:26 -0700

Updating previous reports, Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon has no timetable for a decision on his potential reinstatement, but one source said it isn't expected for at least six weeks.

Fantasy Tip: That would take us very close to the start of the season. Even then, there's no guarantee he would be able to play and contribute immediately. Gordon has WR1 talent, but with the dearth of talent at the position in fantasy, taking him as anything more than a WR3 with a WR4 that has significant upside isn't a shrewd move.

Browns | Josh Gordon meets with commish

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 09:54:26 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon met with commissioner Roger Goodell Wednesday, July 20, regarding his possible return to football, according to sources. Gordon can reapply for reinstatement Aug. 1.

Fantasy Tip: There's still a lot to be determined with Gordon, including how many games he'd have to miss before rejoining the Browns. Stay tuned, but Gordon has elite potential at his position, and we've seen him put up WR1 numbers before with a less-than-ideal situation at quarterback in Cleveland.

Browns | Desmond Bryant hoping to play this year

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 09:45:56 -0700

Cleveland Browns DE Desmond Bryant (pectoral) is hoping that he can return this year after suffering a torn pectoral muscle while working out in May. At the earliest, he could be cleared by mid-November with six or seven games left in the season. Bryant led the Browns in sacks in 2015 with six. He'll resume running and doing lower body work as soon as his incision heals.

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 13:22:18 -0700

Cleveland Browns OT Alvin Bailey will receive the first chance to win the starting right tackle job, but OTs Michael Bowie, Shon Coleman and Spencer Drango will also compete for the job.

Browns | Cleveland would welcome Josh Gordon

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 19:01:58 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon would be welcomed back by the team if he is reinstated after eligible to apply Aug. 1, according to beat writer Mary Kay Cabot. Head coach Hue Jackson has said everyone will begin with a clean slate and that includes Gordon.

Fantasy Tip: If Gordon is able to return, he could be a tremendous fantasy asset. It's uncertain if and when he'll be reinstated, and even when he is it remains to be seen whether he can stay clean or not. He is the definition of a high-risk, high-reward pick.

Browns | RG3 working on pocket presence

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 19:01:26 -0700

Cleveland Browns QB Robert Griffin III has worked hard on his pocket presence over the past several years, including during this spring under head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton. In spring practices he worked inside and out of the pocket, too.

Fantasy Tip: It remains to be seen if Griffin can transform himself into a pocket passer who occasionally runs. It would help tremendously if RG3 can get Josh Gordon back from the suspension, too. Regardless, he is only worth a look as a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues of 12 or more teams.

Browns | Carl Nassib expected to be ready

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 19:01:00 -0700

Cleveland Browns DE Carl Nassib (calf) missed mandatory minicamp in June due to a calf injury, but he is expected to be ready for the start of training camp. Nassib is expected to work some inside, and will be an even more important player with DE Desmond Bryant (pectoral) expected to miss the entire season.
