Bengals | Tyler Eifert a no-go Wednesday

Wed, 20 Sep 2017 11:05:49 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (knee, back) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Perhaps the league's most injury-prone tight end, Eifert has been a victim of the Bengals' woeful offense the first two weeks of the season, as Cincinnati has yet to score a touchdown. Perhaps the change at offensive coordinator to Bill Lazor will spark the offense, but Eifert can be benched in most leagues - assuming he can play in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers - until the offense shows some signs of life.

Bengals | Tyler Eifert iffy for Week 3

Mon, 18 Sep 2017 08:52:22 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (back, knee) is battling back and knee injuries, and his status for Week 3 is uncertain.

Fantasy Tip: Eifert has been less than durable for a few seasons now, and he, along with the entire offense, has struggled to open the season. If he suits up, you're still probably better off finding a different option for now.

Bengals | Tyler Boyd missed Week 2 with tight hamstring

Fri, 15 Sep 2017 09:04:52 -0700

Updating previous reports, Cincinnati Bengals WR Tyler Boyd (hamstring) felt his hamstring tighten up "real late in the process," which ultimately led to him being inactive Week 2 against the Houston Texans, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Tip: This makes more sense than the initial report of "healthy scratch," as Boyd played nearly 70 percent of the snaps in Week 1. However, he is still very much a player who belongs on the waiver wire is in most fantasy leagues.

Bengals | Tyler Boyd absence not injury related

Thu, 14 Sep 2017 22:24:14 -0700

Updating a previous report, Cincinnati Bengals WR Tyler Boyd was not inactive for medical reasons, according to head coach Marvin Lewis. It was originally believed Boyd was suffering from a hamstring injury.

Fantasy Tip: The plot thickens. Boyd, a second-round pick last year, was down after the team chose to activate John Ross, but it's at least somewhat surprising Boyd was the casualty instead of Alex Erickson. Already a marginal option, Boyd is currently of no interest outside deep leagues.

Bengals | John Ross has inauspicious debut

Thu, 14 Sep 2017 21:59:24 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals WR John Ross (knee) had one carry for 12 yards against the Houston Texans on Thursday, Sept. 14. He was not targeted as a receiver and fumbled his lone carry, which was recovered by Houston.

Fantasy Tip: It was surprising that Ross was active, but any plans to use him apparently went up in smoke when he put the ball on the ground on his first official NFL touch. While brighter days are certainly ahead there's no pressing reason to get Ross in your lineup.

Bengals | A.J. Green has quiet night

Thu, 14 Sep 2017 21:50:59 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals WR A.J. Green tallied 67 yards on five receptions (13.4 yards per reception) against the Houston Texans in Week 2. He was targeted eight times in the loss.

Fantasy Tip: Green's final line isn't terrible, but 50 of those 67 yards came on one catch, leaving just 17 for the other four (4.3 YPC). He'll get his next chance to break out against a revamped yet unproven Green Bay Packers secondary in Week 3. He's too talented to keep out of your lineup, and you certainly wouldn't want to sell low on him now. Stay the course.

Bengals | Giovani Bernard sputters Thursday night

Thu, 14 Sep 2017 21:42:26 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard managed just 10 yards on five carries Thursday, Sept. 14, against the Houston Texans. Bernard was targeted four times in the passing game, which led to two catches for 16 yards.

Fantasy Tip: On some level it makes sense to ease Bernard, who tore his ACL last November, back into action, but it's unclear that's what's happening as all three of Cincinnati's RBs are getting just a handful of touches each game. Bernard offers a unique skill set and should eventually hold value in PPR leagues, however, so don't cut bait just yet.

Bengals | Joe Mixon leads team in rushing

Thu, 14 Sep 2017 21:36:25 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon gained 36 yards on nine carries against the Houston Texans Thursday, Sept. 14, both of which led the team. He added one reception for five yards.

Fantasy Tip: Mixon's modest 4.0 YPC in Week 2 dwarfed those of Gio Bernard (2.0 YPC) and Jeremy Hill (2.8), though a long gain of seven yards tells you there was nothing explosive about Cincy's offense Thursday night. The Bengals will have a few extra days to regroup before Week 3, so we'll see if they solider on with their three-headed approach to the running game. Mixon's upside is too high to cut him loose at this juncture.

Bengals | Jeremy Hill totals 19 yards vs. Texans

Thu, 14 Sep 2017 21:21:30 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals RB Jeremy Hill carried six times for 17 yards and caught a two-yard pass against the Houston Texans in Week 2.

Fantasy Tip: Make it two weeks in a row for Hill with exactly six carries and one reception -- hardly the stuff of fantasy relevance. Even with backfield mates Gio Bernard and Joe Mixon failing to distinguish themselves, Hill's prospects seem the bleakest of the bunch going forward. At best he can be stashed on your bench, but don't go out of your way to keep him there.

Bengals | Andy Dalton to remain starter

Thu, 14 Sep 2017 21:17:36 -0700

Cincinnati Bengals QB Andy Dalton will remain the starting quarterback, according to head coach Marvin Lewis, who said Dalton's job was not in jeopardy.

Fantasy Tip: A lot of people liked Cincinnati to bounce back after a disappointing 2016, but through two games they look like one of the NFL's worst teams, and a lot of that starts with Dalton, who has gone consecutive games without passing for a TD since October of 2014. Lewis offered a vote of confidence, but we'll see how long that lasts because if the Bengals don't play better, Lewis' job will be on the line as well. At that point, all bets are off. Dalton, who entered 2017 as a midrange QB2, should stay mired to your bench until further notice.
