Fantasy Tip: Jay Cutler has been cleared to play, so he'll take over for Hoyer with Matt Barkely now serving as the backup. Cutler has been underwhelming this season and during his Bears tenure, though, and the Chicago quarterback situation is one to avoid.

Fantasy Tip: Brian Hoyer is expected to be out six weeks with a broken left arm and Matt Barkley hasn't exactly proven to be an adequate NFL quarterback, so the Bears have little choice but to turn back to Cutler. That's likely good news this week for Alshon Jeffery - the one player Cutler doesn't mind forcing the ball to - and the owners of the Vikings D/ST, who should be angry coming off their worst performance of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Matt Barkley is likely to be under center in the near term. The Bears take on the Minnesota Vikings in Week 8, and Barkley shouldn't be a starting consideration in fantasy.

Updating previous reports, Chicago Bears QB Brian Hoyer (arm) is scheduled to undergo surgery Sunday, Oct. 23, on his broken left forearm. He will be sidelined for at least eight weeks and could be placed on injured reserve.
Fantasy Tip: Matt Barkley will serve as Chicago's starting quarterback for the foreseeable future, with Jay Cutler (thumb) out indefinitely, but he is not a viable fantasy option. It had been hoped that Hoyer could make a late-season return but the odds of that happening now appear slim.

Updating previous reports, Chicago Bears QB Brian Hoyer (arm) is expected to undergo surgery to repair the broken radius bone in his left arm suffered during Week 7's game against the Green Bay Packers, according to a source. A late-season return has not been ruled out.
Fantasy Tip: QB Jay Cutler (thumb) remains out indefinitely, so Matt Barkley will be Chicago's primary signal-caller for the foreseeable future. However, Barkley is not a viable fantasy option and all Bears pass-catchers are likely to experience a dip in production for as long as he's in there.

Fantasy Tip: Carey was perhaps the lone bright spot for Chicago, showing some burst and explosion against one of the league's better run defenses. He out-touched starter Jordan Howard 11-7 and produced 35 more total yards. While neither player is worth using in Week 8 against the Minnesota Vikings, it is becoming clear the Bears are moving back toward a backfield committee again.

Fantasy Tip: Owners were probably hoping for something approaching his final line last week (seven catches for 93 yards) against a decimated Packers' secondary, but Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley combined for only 120 yards and 10 completions on 26 attempts. If there is one bright spot, it might be that Jeffery has amassed 24 targets over the last two weeks (seven fewer than his total through the first five games). Things aren't going to get any better with Matt Barkley as his quarterback and the Minnesota Vikings on deck next week, so consider him a low-upside WR2 for that matchup.

Fantasy Tip: While Brian Hoyer's first-half arm injury and subsequent exit didn't exactly help matters, Meredith appeared to be an afterthought all game long. After posting 20 catches on 27 targets over the previous two weeks, the second-year wideout is now in uncertain fantasy territory with Hoyer out indefinitely and Matt Barkley under center. It's too early for his owners to panic, but a Week 8 date with the Minnesota Vikings is daunting enough to make him bench-worthy.
