Vaughn McClure, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears LB Brian Urlacher said he would welcome unrestricted free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Giants) but is not surprised that the team has pulled back in their pursuit since Burress could face a lengthy suspension. "My first thought with [Burress] was, would he even be able to play this year? You have to wonder how long you're going to have him or when he's going to be available. [But] he's a great receiver [and] I would have been open to it," Urlacher said.

"We're good to go," Cutler noted. He went on to say he feels the Bears have more than enough talent to compete. The Bears are looking for Cutler to raise the level of play of the wide receivers. "You don't win because of wide receivers. You don't win because of running backs. You win because of the quarterback," general manager Jerry Angelo said.

"I talked to 'B' a few days ago. Just checking in on him and seeing how he's doing, because I went through a similar thing that he's going through," Cutler said. "I played with Brandon for three years and I think he's one of the best receivers in the NFL. I think he can be one of the greatest ever to play. He's big and fast, and can do everything you want him to do, on the field and in the meeting room. I don't know what we're going to do. That's up to the guys upstairs. If we make a run at him, we make a run at him."

"We feel good about where he's at medically. There's nothing to be alarmed about. This is the offseason. We want to make sure that we take care of our players to the best of our ability and we're always going to err on the side of caution in the offseason. He's got an issue with his knee; we know that. He has to be smart about it, which he is. We've got to be smart about it, which we are. Is his knee pristine? No. it's not. But it's not something that he can't perform well with."
