Bears | Ka'Deem Carey tallies 57 total yards

Thu, 20 Oct 2016 21:59:55 -0700

Chicago Bears RB Ka'Deem Carey looked like the team's best option in the backfield for the second straight week, rushing 10 times for 48 yards while adding a nine-yard catch on his only target.

Fantasy Tip: Carey was perhaps the lone bright spot for Chicago, showing some burst and explosion against one of the league's better run defenses. He out-touched starter Jordan Howard 11-7 and produced 35 more total yards. While neither player is worth using in Week 8 against the Minnesota Vikings, it is becoming clear the Bears are moving back toward a backfield committee again.

Bears | Alshon Jeffery bottled up again

Thu, 20 Oct 2016 21:50:51 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Alshon Jeffery tallied three catches for 33 scoreless yards on 11 targets in a Week 7 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: Owners were probably hoping for something approaching his final line last week (seven catches for 93 yards) against a decimated Packers' secondary, but Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley combined for only 120 yards and 10 completions on 26 attempts. If there is one bright spot, it might be that Jeffery has amassed 24 targets over the last two weeks (seven fewer than his total through the first five games). Things aren't going to get any better with Matt Barkley as his quarterback and the Minnesota Vikings on deck next week, so consider him a low-upside WR2 for that matchup.

Bears | Cameron Meredith held to one catch

Thu, 20 Oct 2016 21:32:26 -0700

Chicago Bears WR Cameron Meredith hauled in only one of his two targets for 12 yards in a Week 7 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: While Brian Hoyer's first-half arm injury and subsequent exit didn't exactly help matters, Meredith appeared to be an afterthought all game long. After posting 20 catches on 27 targets over the previous two weeks, the second-year wideout is now in uncertain fantasy territory with Hoyer out indefinitely and Matt Barkley under center. It's too early for his owners to panic, but a Week 8 date with the Minnesota Vikings is daunting enough to make him bench-worthy.

Bears | Jordan Howard disappoints in Week 7 loss

Thu, 20 Oct 2016 21:10:21 -0700

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard was held to 22 yards on seven carries in a Week 7 setback versus the Green Bay Packers.

Fantasy Tip: True to form, head coach John Fox didn't wait long to remind the fantasy world how much he loves running back committees, turning to Ka'Deem Carey on the third series, and Howard saw relatively little playing time after that. While Howard may still be the starter going forward, his run as the featured back is likely over. Carey once again showed more explosion and made his case for increased touches. As such, Howard is going to be hard to trust as anything more than a flex play going forward.

Bears | Brian Hoyer has broken left arm

Thu, 20 Oct 2016 19:27:33 -0700

Updating a previous story, Chicago Bears QB Brian Hoyer (arm) was diagnosed with a broken left arm, according to head coach John Fox.

Fantasy Tip: With Jay Cutler (thumb) still out indefinitely, Matt Barkley is now in control of the Bears' offense. Hoyer can consider himself lucky in the sense he suffered the injury on his non-throwing arm, but he is still looking at an extended absence in all likelihood. Barkley has looked competent so far, but his presence is still a downgrade for all Chicago pass-catchers.

Bears | Brian Hoyer out of game

Thu, 20 Oct 2016 18:37:23 -0700

Updating previous items, Chicago Bears QB Brian Hoyer (forearm) will not return to the Thursday, Oct. 20, game against the Green Bay Packers due to a forearm injury.

Fantasy Tip: Not much is known about how long Hoyer will be out, although things did not look good when Hoyer left for the locker room. For now, QB Matt Barkley is in the game, and QB Jay Cutler may have just gotten a reprieve in the short term. Stay tuned to see what the Bears do for their next move.

Bears | Brian Hoyer injured

Thu, 20 Oct 2016 18:13:03 -0700

Chicago Bears QB Brian Hoyer (arm) was shaken up in the second quarter of the Thursday, Oct. 20, game against the Green Bay Packers. QB Matt Barkley was seen warming up on the sidelines, but Hoyer was also seen walking the sidelines before heading to the locker room holding his left arm.

Fantasy Tip: This is a fluid situation, so stay tuned for further details on whether Hoyer comes back in or Barkley has to finish the game.

Bears | Ka'Deem Carey works into a split?

Wed, 19 Oct 2016 23:04:31 -0700

Chicago Bears RB Ka'Deem Carey (hamstring) ran nine times for 50 yards, splitting time with RB Jordan Howard in the Week 6 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team said in the offseason they would use a running back by committee approach, rolling with the hot hand, and that's what they did.

Fantasy Tip: Carey has plenty of talent, and he outperformed Howard who was coming off two 100-yard rushing games. Carey is worth stashing away on reserve if you need help at the running backs position, or if you're a nervous Howard owner. RBBCs are not a favorite of fantasy owners, and it looks like one is shaping up in the Windy City.

Bears | Jordan Howard sees decrease in snaps

Wed, 19 Oct 2016 23:03:55 -0700

Chicago Bears RB Jordan Howard was outrushed by RB Ka'Deem Carey in the Week 6 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Howard ran for 34 yards on 15 carries, while Carey had 50 yards on nine rushes. Howard had a drop in the red zone on one of his targets, and the team said during the offseason that they would go with the hot hand. The team made a concerted effort to mix in multiple backs and share the carries.

Fantasy Tip: Howard recently hit the century mark in rushing yardage in a pair of games, but apparently nothing is guaranteed in Chicago and he'll have to continue to earn that No. 1 job even after recent success. This is maddening for fantasy owners who thought they had mined a gem.
