Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin appears to be fine

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 15:32:11 -0700

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) did not suffered a major injury, based on early indications, a source said Sunday, Sept. 24.

Fantasy Tip: After a scare, it appears Benjamin is expected to be fine. That is good news for a struggling Carolina offense which lost Greg Olsen (foot) to a long-term injury last week. Treat Benjamin more as a WR3 or flex option heading into Week 4 at New England, if healthy.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin nearly invisible

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 13:38:59 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin posted just two catches for eight yards on his only two targets in Week 3 against New Orleans.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin was erased by a previously suspect New Orleans pass defense before leaving early due to a knee injury. Instead of picking up his game with Greg Olsen (foot) sidelined, Benjamin took a step back and then he was hurt. If healthy, he should only be considered a WR3 heading into Week 4 at New England, and even that might be generous considering his results to date.

Panthers | Devin Funchess leads Carolina WRs

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 13:38:30 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess posted four catches for 58 yards on 10 targets in Week 3 against New Orleans.

Fantasy Tip: Funchess stepped up his game and was used a lot more with Greg Olsen (foot) sidelined. The former Michigan standout led the wideouts in catches, yards and targets. Still, it was a rather mediocre performance and he should be treated only as a low-end WR4 or flex play heading into Week 4 at New England.

Panthers | Ed Dickson only targeted once

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 13:37:57 -0700

Carolina Panthers TE Ed Dickson posted just one catch for eight yards on one target in Week 3 against the Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Dickson's usage rate didn't increase at all with Greg Olsen (foot) sidelined, as most of the short-route work went to Christian McCaffrey. If you targeted Dickson for fantasy purposes you can quickly abandon that plan. The Panthers travel to meet the Patriots in Week 4.

Panthers | Christian McCaffrey busy in pass game

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 13:37:25 -0700

Carolina Panthers rookie RB Christian McCaffrey racked up nine receptions for 101 yards on a game-high 11 targets in Week 3 against the Saints and he added four runs for 16 yards.

Fantasy Tip: McCaffrey picked up the slack following the loss of Greg Olsen (foot) last week, essentially sucking up all of Olsen's targets. That was about the only thing working in the Carolina offense. The rookie will look to keep it going in Week 4 at New England.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart totals 13 touches

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 13:36:52 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart rushed 12 times for 57 yards in Week 3 against New Orleans and he added one grab for four yards.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners expected much more against a porous Saints defense but Stewart didn't contribute much to point totals. He'll look to rebound in Week 4 at New England, but treat him as more of a low-end RB2 in most fantasy leagues.

Panthers | Cam Newton lifted late in loss

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 13:36:22 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton completed just 17 of his 26 pass attempts for 167 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions in Week 3 against the Saints and he was lifted late in the blowout loss.

Fantasy Tip: Newton was able to salvage the stat line with a rushing touchdown, but it certainly wasn't the breakout performance fantasy owners were expecting against a giving pass defense. Newton has struggled through three games and the Panthers offense has looked disjointed. He is fading as a QB1 option in fantasy leagues and needs a big performance in Week 4 at New England.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin will not return

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 11:51:28 -0700

Updating a previous report, Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) will not return to the team's Week 3 game.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should find out more about Benjamin's condition after the game or in the next day or two. Devin Funchess would receive a bigger role in the passing game if Benjamin misses time but is not a great fantasy option.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin injures knee

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 11:03:08 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee) suffered a knee injury in Week 3 and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to determine the severity of Benjamin's injury. He has dealt with injuries over the last few years but is still a starting fantasy receiver when healthy.

Panthers | Cam Newton expected to play

Sun, 24 Sep 2017 05:35:36 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (shoulder, ankle) is expected to play in Week 3's game against the New Orleans Saints.

Fantasy Tip: Newton was a limited participant in practice throughout the week and was listed as questionable on the injury report. Despite his sluggish start to the 2017 campaign, he should be viewed as a QB1 in all fantasy formats, given a highly favorable matchup against a New Orleans defense that has allowed 65 points over their first two games.
