Carolina Panthers LB Jon Beason responded to San Francisco 49ers QB Alex Smith via Twitter after comments he perceived were a slam on QB Cam Newton. Beason wrote, "Alex smith, don't hate on Cam (because) your stats would've gotten u cut if Peyton decided to come 2 San Fran. Truth b told. That's after a 13-3 yr." Smith used Newton as an example earlier this week that big stats don't always equate to wins.

"I will say this about a sophomore slump – if there's anybody that's going work through it, he's going to work through it. When the season was over, one of the things he said was he wanted to find a way to make sure he didn't have one. I think the less we talk about it, the less we get caught up in it, the better," Rivera said.
