Panthers | Mike Tolbert done in Carolina

Tue, 21 Feb 2017 10:44:41 -0800

Carolina Panthers FB Mike Tolbert was released by the team Tuesday, Feb. 21.

Fantasy Tip: The move clears $1.725 million in cap space for Carolina, which appears set to go with either former Washington Redskin Darrel Young or Devon Johnson. Although he earned three Pro Bowl nods in five seasons with the Panthers, they never did use the 31-year-old much as a receiver. Tolbert should find another employer in relatively short order, but his days as a fantasy asset are well in the rear-view mirror.

Panthers | Victor Cruz happy with Carolina visit

Mon, 20 Feb 2017 16:57:52 -0800

Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) said his visit with the Carolina Panthers Monday, Feb. 20, went well. No deal is imminent at this point, but it appears there is mutual interest between Cruz and the Panthers. Cruz does not have any other visits scheduled at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz could meet with a few more teams before he signs with a team, but he may have to wait before he receives a deal. Cruz has dealt with injuries in the last several years but was able play 15 games in 2016 and finished with 586 yards and one touchdown. Cruz probably will be a No. 3 receiver for a team in 2017 and can be a No. 4 or No. 5 receiver for fantasy owners.

Panthers | Victor Cruz visited Panthers

Mon, 20 Feb 2017 12:13:12 -0800

Free-agent WR Victor Cruz (Giants) visited the Carolina Panthers over the weekend, according to a source. A deal is not imminent and Cruz is expected to speak with at least one other team.

Fantasy Tip: The term "washed up" was made for players like Cruz. He didn't produce much in a complementary role with the Giants last year and is clearly past his prime. For now, only draft him as a late-round option in standard leagues.

Panthers | Jonathan Stewart in 2017 plans

Tue, 07 Feb 2017 07:14:22 -0800

Carolina Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart appears to be in the team's plans for 2017. Head coach Ron Rivera mentioned Stewart by name in saying the team can't rely on its quarterback as its leading rusher. "We've got to get guys like Jonathan Stewart rolling. We've got to put it in our backs' hands and get the ball to our playmakers."

Fantasy Tip: There was some question as to whether the team would move on from the soon-to-be 30-year-old. However, they're expected to bring in competition at the position. Stewart is oft-injured, but he has been serviceable in committees. Age and attrition might bump him down into the RB3 area in fantasy.

Panthers | Graham Gano expected to face competition

Fri, 03 Feb 2017 15:38:53 -0800

The Carolina Panthers are expected to add a kicker during free agency or the NFL draft who will compete with PK Graham Gano during training camp.

Fantasy Tip: Gano made 78.9 percent of his field goal attempts this season and rank 25th in the NFL in that category. He probably will be the favorite for the job entering training camp but probably can be avoided in fantasy leagues.
