Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin is overweight, according to head coach Ron Rivera, and it's a concern. Benjamin, listed at 6-5, 245 pounds, was rumored to weigh 280 pounds, but Rivera disputed the report. He did not offer a specific weight, but he said Benjamin is a "little heavy" right now and is working hard to lose the weight.
Fantasy Tip: KB is a big dude, so weighing north of 250 isn't that much of a concern, but 280 is a big tight end in today's NFL. Assuming he manages his weight properly, there is no reason to be overly concerned this time of the year. Benjamin is a WR2 in most fantasy setups.

Fantasy Tip: Samuel likely will be used as a slot receiver and will take over the role that Ted Ginn Jr. used to handle. He will have some value in standard leagues this season but will not be a weekly starting option. Owners in keeper leagues should consider him a No. 3 receiver or flex option in the future.

Carolina Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey drew a comparison to Hall-of-Famer Curtis Martin from general manager Dave Gettleman shortly after the team selected him Thursday, April 27. "It doesn't happen very often. The best tackle-box runner I've ever seen is Curtis Martin out of Pitt. Christian is right there with him. Running in that tackle box takes unique vision and unique quickness, and he's got it. Curtis Martin had it, and he had a great career – a Hall of Fame career – and this kid's got those kind of skills," Gettleman said.
Fantasy Tip: One gets the sense Carolina sees McCaffrey as a feature back down the road, as Martin ran for 14,101 yards in 11 seasons. McCaffrey is likely to start out his career in the back end of a committee with Jonathan Stewart and will probably be considered the team's slot option as well as its top punt returner. McCaffrey will not lack for work, although it might take him a year or two before he gets the high-volume offensive role fantasy owners desire. Regardless, he should make for a fine flex option as a rookie.

Fantasy Tip: Position flexibility and versatility are the name of the game with McCaffrey, who figures to line up all over the field and be heavily involved in the running, passing and return games. He's well positioned to flourish as a rookie and will draw a lot of interest early in drafts with his value spiking in PPR formats.

Fantasy Tip: McCaffrey will have an immediate role as both a runner and a receiver in Carolina. He is no worse than a flex play as a rookie, and he'll have even more value in PPR formats. In rookie drafts, he should be in consideration for the top pick.

Fantasy Tip: McCaffrey should have a solid role in the offense right away with the Panthers because of his ability to catch the ball. He probably will also receive a few carries each game. McCaffrey will be a valuable pick in point-per-reception leagues because of his receiving skills.

Fantasy Tip: The Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars have been two of the most linked teams to Fournette. Apparently the Panthers are comfortable with waiting if they aren't able to take the star prospect. If that's the case, Jonathan Stewart could very well remain the primary running back in Carolina. Even at 30 years old, Stewart would warrant RB2 consideration in that case.

Fantasy Tip: Newton had a miserable season by his standards last season, although his offensive line and the bum shoulder didn't help him much in that regard. While a bounce-back year could be in order, the primary focus of the Panthers' offseason has been to cut down on the amount of punishment Newton receives, which should mean a decline in his number of rushing attempts. If that happens, Newton becomes more of a midrange fantasy QB1 instead of the elite one he was in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Newton was a perennial top-five fantasy option at his position prior to last year's injury-plagued campaign. If he slips in drafts, he could end up being a good value pick in 2017.
