Panthers | Greg Hardy punishment could wait

Thu, 17 Jul 2014 09:15:05 -0700

Carolina Panthers DE Greg Hardy could avoid immediate punishment from the NFL after being found guilty on charges of communicating threats and assaulting a female because he filed for a second trial in Superior Court in front of a jury. The NFL could choose to suspend Hardy for as many as four games based on recent disciplinary actions. League spokesman Brian McCarthy said the NFL would review Hardy's legal situation at the "appropriate time." The league usually doesn't punish first-time offenders until their legal cases have run their course. However, the Panthers could take action against Hardy before the NFL's decision.

Fantasy Tip: Hardy's second trial won't be until after the 2014 season, so if the NFL waits, they're unlikely to suspend him this season. However, the team could choose to discipline him before then. Stay tuned.
