Panthers | Philly Brown gained muscle, speed

Thu, 28 May 2015 18:36:50 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Philly Brown said Thursday, May 28, he's gained 10 pounds and is faster.

Fantasy Tip: Brown had 21 receptions for 296 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie season. The Panthers added plenty of bodies to their receiving corps, but Brown could emerge as the deep threat.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin still out

Thu, 28 May 2015 12:27:01 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (hamstring) sat out organized team activities Thursday, May 28, as he continues to nurse a sore hamstring.

Fantasy Tip: It was expected that Benjamin was going to sit out OTAs this week, so this isn't a big surprise. The key is for him to rest it long enough so that it doesn't get aggravated when he returns. As long as he's healthy heading into the season, he should be drafted as a WR2.

Panthers | Cam Newton showing confidence

Mon, 25 May 2015 13:11:56 -0700

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton said no one has the size, the speed, the arm strength or the intangibles that he has. "I'm not saying that to say I'm a one-on-one type of person that this league will never see another… I'm just saying that so much of my talents have not been seen in one person."

Fantasy Tip: Newton is certainly a rare specimen. He has all the physical tools but sometimes struggles with inaccuracy. When healthy, he's a QB1 candidate. He finished as a QB2 last season but only played in 14 games. In 2015 drafts, take him as a QB1.

Panthers | Kelvin Benjamin nursing injury

Thu, 21 May 2015 13:55:53 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Kelvin Benjamin (hamstring) is nursing a strained hamstring he suffered last week, according to a source. Benjamin is not likely to participate in organized team activities next week.

Fantasy Tip: Benjamin's injury is relatively minor, especially at this point in the offseason as he should be ready to go for training camp. Benjamin had a stellar rookie campaign and there's no reason to believe he shouldn't be able to see similar success in his second season.

Panthers | Devin Funchess to be No. 2 WR?

Wed, 20 May 2015 14:55:59 -0700

Carolina Panthers rookie WR Devin Funchess could be the No. 2 wide receiver ahead of Jerricho Cotchery this season, according to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com.

Fantasy Tip: Funchess gives the Panthers another big-body receiver on the outside opposite Kelvin Benhjamin. Funchess could be another red zone threat for Carolina, but shouldn't be regarded as more than a WR4 or WR5.

Panthers | Cameron Artis-Payne to be No. 2?

Tue, 19 May 2015 07:30:58 -0700

Carolina Panthers RB Cameron Artis-Payne is expected to win the No. 2 running back job behind starting RB Jonathan Stewart. Artis-Payne, a 2015 fifth-round draft choice, should play a significant role in the offense, in the opinion of ESPN.com's David Newton. Rookie RB Brandon Wegher and RB Fozzy Whittaker are likely to compete for the No. 3 job.

Fantasy Tip: CAP is a name to tuck away for summer fantasy drafts. Give this one some time to play out before investing heavily. Wegher is intriguing, but his individual upside doesn't outweigh the reality of his situation and the probability of seeing limited touches should he make the team. The Panthers will split carries at running back. Furthermore, FB Mike Tolbert is healthy, and QB Cam Newton is always a threat to steal red zone work.

Panthers | No. 2 WR job Devin Funchess' to lose?

Tue, 19 May 2015 06:27:01 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess eventually will be the Panthers' No. 2 receiver opposite WR Kelvin Benjamin, but it is unclear if the rookie will begin the 2015 season in this role, according to ESPN.com's David Newton. Funchess will battle with WRs Jerricho Cotchery, Ted Ginn Jr., Philly Brown and Stephen Hill this summer.

Fantasy Tip: As the year wears on, Funchess should become a fairly regular fantasy contributor. He is a threat around the goal line and a candidate for several big games, but owners will have to be patient. The rookie is best reserved for full-retention keeper leagues and daily gaming on FantasyScore.

Panthers | Jerricho Cotchery expected to stick

Tue, 19 May 2015 06:22:02 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Jerricho Cotchery is expected to remain with the Panthers as their No. 3 or No. 4 wide receiver in 2015, according to ESPN.com's David Newton.

Fantasy Tip: Cotchery's fantasy value is practically nonexistent in traditional formats, especially standard-scoring setups, but he may have a week or two of mild DFS appeal with the right matchup.

Panthers | Devin Funchess being moved around

Thu, 14 May 2015 21:36:23 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess has played all three receiver positions during minicamp.

Fantasy Tip: Funchess has the size to create matchup problems no matter where he lines up, and he could be particularly useful in the red zone. He is a late-round flier at best in seasonal leagues, but he has some upside thanks to his touchdown potential.

Panthers | Devin Funchess dealing with cramps

Fri, 08 May 2015 14:26:38 -0700

Carolina Panthers WR Devin Funchess (leg) was carted off the field during practice Friday, May 8, but is just dealing with leg cramps, according to the team.

Fantasy Tip: Funchess could be limited for the rest of the minicamp but should be fine. Funchess may have a solid role in the passing game this upcoming season but is not more than a late-round option in deeper leagues.
