Panthers | Greg Olsen set to return

Fri, 24 Nov 2017 10:15:02 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) was activated from the Reserve/Injured list Friday, Nov. 24. WR Curtis Samuel (ankle) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Head coach Ron Rivera told Panthers.com the plan is ease Olsen back in "judiciously," so owners would be advised to sit him this week in fantasy. Regardless, it appears he will have at least one or two full games under his belt before most owners have to decide if he will be a critical part of their fantasy playoff run or not.

Panthers | Limited practice for Cam Newton

Thu, 23 Nov 2017 15:12:38 -0800

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (thumb) was limited during practice Thursday, Nov. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Newton appears to be on track to play in Week 12 despite being limited during practice. He is coming off an outstanding Week 11 performance where he threw four touchdowns and should have success against the New York Jets. He can be considered a No. 1 quarterback in all fantasy leagues.

Panthers | Cam Newton limited on Wednesday

Wed, 22 Nov 2017 15:21:05 -0800

Carolina Panthers QB Cam Newton (thumb) was listed as a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Nov. 22, due to a right thumb injury.

Fantasy Tip: Newton has been limited in mid-week practices after offseason shoulder surgery, so this is a new ailment. The indications are that it isn't serious and he should be fine for Sunday's game at N.Y. Jets. The Jets are middle of the pack with 229.0 yards per game allowed through the air, but they have allowed 20 passing scores through 10 games with 35 pass play of 20 yards.

Panthers | Greg Olsen practices again Wednesday

Wed, 22 Nov 2017 09:37:16 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) participated in practice again Wednesday, Nov. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen is still on the Reserve/Injured list, but he is a good bet to come off and see his first action since Week 2 against the New York Jets this weekend. Although it is always risky to start a player in fantasy after such a long layoff, Olsen should have a clear path to five or more targets right away and could emerge as Cam Newton's primary downfield target sooner than later. Owners desperate for a tight end should start him if/when he is cleared.

Panthers | Greg Olsen expects to play

Mon, 20 Nov 2017 15:39:48 -0800

Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen (foot) said he expects to play against the New York Jets as long as he does not suffer a setback during practice this week.

Fantasy Tip: Olsen has miss most of the season because of his foot injury but is one of the better tight ends in the NFL when he is healthy. He can be a starting option in all fantasy leagues this week, but owners may want to lower their expectations a bit.

Panthers | Ryan Kalil not at full strength

Mon, 20 Nov 2017 12:44:34 -0800

Carolina Panthers C Ryan Kalil (shoulder, neck) doesn't have full strength back in his injured shoulder yet, according to a source. His neck feels better, but the Panthers want his shoulder fully healed so Kalil doesn't risk aggravating his neck. His status for Week 12 is up in the air.

Panthers | Damiere Byrd returns to practice

Mon, 20 Nov 2017 11:00:18 -0800

Carolina Panthers WR Damiere Byrd was spotted at practice (arm) Monday, Nov. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Byrd is not eligible to return to game action until Week 13, but it is possible he will be asked to assume some of the targets Curtis Samuel was supposed to receive prior to his season-ending injury. With that said, Byrd is unlikely to have much fantasy value once he returns.

Panthers | Curtis Samuel out for season

Tue, 14 Nov 2017 12:54:02 -0800

Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (ankle) will be shut down for the remainder of the season, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: With Kelvin Benjamin gone and now Samuel out for Carolina, Devin Funchess and Russell Shepard comprise the Panthers' top two wide receivers. Christian McCaffrey will continue to play an integral role in the passing game, but Shepard is worth a pickup if available.

Panthers | Curtis Samuel injury could be season-ending

Tue, 14 Nov 2017 10:55:30 -0800

Updating previous reports, Carolina Panthers WR Curtis Samuel (leg, ankle) is feared to have suffered a season-ending leg or ankle injury.

Fantasy Tip: A defender landed on the back of Samuel's left leg as he fell to the ground trying to haul in a touchdown pass in Week 10, and it would be surprising if the rookie didn't suffer a break or fracture of some kind in his ankle or lower leg given the angle his ankle turned when the incident occurred. Damiere Byrd is expected to return from the Reserve/Injured list following the team's Week 11 bye and may be the front runner to take over Samuel's growing role in the offense.
